Title: Strange 1901 Census Port Glasgow

On checking the 1901 census for my family (McGroarty) in Port Glasgow all the figures for ages and marriages are out by 10 years any idea anyone

Mistakes and mistranscriptions do happen on census entries. One of those things unfortunately  :-\ Have you checked the original image on Scotlands People or are you looking at a transcription. That is why it is important to check other censuses and also look at BMD certificates etc to confirm the details.

There are not many McGroaty entries in Port Glasgow for 1901. Only 8 that I can see on the transcript. Which one are you looking at?

Thomas McGroarty 29 labourer b. Renfrewshire
Lizzie McGroarty 27 b. Port Glasgow
George McGroarty 4
Neil McGroarty 2
Charles McGroarty 10 months

Address: Ropework Lane, Port Glasgow

And:

Mary McWallay 49
Mary Jane McWallay ( McMcAnally) 28 daughter b. Ireland
Michael McGroarty 36 son in law, labourer, b. Ireland
Mary McGroarty 2 b. Glasgow

Address: Sinelaus Close, Port Glasgow

Also:

A Charles McGroarty, 20, fitter helper from Co. Donegal, boarding with the McHugh family in Port Glasgow. Address: Address: Huntly Ter Chapel Lane, Port Glasgow.

Thanks for the reply Monica your results are all the same family anyway the top 5 names are right with there right ages but that is not the same information that is on the census that I download from ScotlandsPeople weird
