Hi Ciena
Could you let us have an idea of s=dates, please?
All I have found with a quick search is the death of their son Lionel
1982, Victoria #25866
Lionel George COPPLEMAN, 70
Died: Heidelberg, Victoria
Father's Name: Karl
Mother's name: Robins
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1912
This man seems to have been buried in Tasmania - although it may not be him
Lionel George Coppleman, 70
Died 25 Oct 1982
Cemetery: Malbina General. New Norfolk, Tasmania
The image for this burial has this information
COPPLEMAN, Lionel George - 70 years - VX 50714 - Sgt RAE AIF Died 25 October 1982
Also at Malbina:
COPPLEMAN, Rubeena Ivy - died 21 April 1957 - sp Charles Edward

"COPPLEMAN, Lionel George - 70 years - VX 50714 - Sgt RAE AIF Died 25 October 1982"
The VX service number indicates that he enlisted in Victoria for WW2 and served overseas.
You should be able to get his war service history OK, I'd think, from the AWM site.

NAA has a digitised WW1 enlistment for Charles Edward COPPLEMAN in 1918 but he did not proceed overseas as the war was coming to an end. At the time of enlistment he was a farmer, living at Malbina, Molesworth, Tasmania and gave a birthplace/date of Molesworth, 29 February, 1885 (was it a Leap Year, don't think so!). Wife listed as Rubina also of Molesworth.
The son, Lionel enlisted in WW2, but the record isn't digitised. He enlisted in Wangaratta, Victoria. You can request a copy of the record.

Thank you, Judith & Dawn for the info, I do have all the info on Lionel but what I am really searching for is the death of Carl and his wife Eveline better known as Robena, Lionel is their son and I have all his info.
Charles Edward, is the uncle of Lionel, but the dates for the deaths of his parents seem to be a bit illusive, maybe the died somewhere other than Victoria, will have to have to do a better search...thank you again.
Cheers

Sorry, Ciena - I'm a bit confused (as usual ;D)
Can you clarify for me - is Charles Edward is the uncle of Lionel?
And you are seeking the father of Lionel? So is Charles Edward the brother of Carl, father of Lionel? And did he marry a Rubina also? The cemetery information I found has Charles Edward COPPLEMAN as the spouse of Rubina Ivy COPPLEMAN.
I am assuming if Lionel was born in 1912 his parents would perhaps have been born in the 1880s?

Electoral Roll 1931
Address, Bright Victoria
COPPLEMAN, Charles Edward, farmer
COPPLEMAN Rubina Ivy. HD
Of course Charles could be the anglicised version of Carl.

As posted by Judith this death.
I wonder if Robins is a mistranscription for Robina.
If so, it would look as if KARL and CHARLES were used interchangeably as his father's name
COPPLEMAN Lionel George
Father Karl
Mother Robins
Death Place HEID
Age 70
Year 1982
Reg Number 25866

Sorry for the delay in answering and also sorry if this is confusing but I am looking for a death for Carl Christian Joseph Koppleman andhis wife Eveline Robena Ivy (nee WILLIAMS) , I was told they did not return to Tasmania but remained in Victoria.
COPPLEMAN, Charles Edward, farmer and COPPLEMAN Rubina Ivy, are not the same couple I am researching although Charles and Carl are from the same family with the (C) replacing the (K) as most of the family did,

Hi JM,
Thank you for the info, the last known date Carl was in Victoria was July 1957, I have nothing else on him or his wife after that date...so I am still wondering did they stay there or did they retrun to Tasmania.....I am at a total loss.

Ok
This is what I can see:
Birth
Carl Christian Jos KOPPELMAN, 1 Mar 1884
Father's Name: John Koppelman
Mother's name: Dorothea Betein
Registration Place: New Norfolk, Tasmania
Registration Number: 2243
A birth with same parents:
Mina Louisa Paulina KOPPELMAN
1880, parents: John, Dorothea Sophia BATTEAN, New Norfolk, Tasmania
I cannot see a birth for a Charles Edward COPPLEMAN or KOPPELMAN
Marriage:
1907, Tasmania #0976
Evelyn Rubina Ivy WILLIAMS
Carl COPPLEMAN
WW1 record shows:
Carl Edward joined the AIF on 1918 and gives his age as 33 years and 5 months and a birthdate of 29 February 1885. This date cannot be correct as 1885 was not a leap year - Carl Christian's d o b is 1 March 1884, which was a leap year - quite a co-incidence.
http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/search/index.aspx
There is another record - undigitised unfortunately and only date given is 1914-1918 - where Carl Edward KOPPLEMAN had been rejected for war service owing to German parentage.
Please can you tell us about the last sighting of the couple you are seeking in Beechworth.
It would seem to me that Carl Christian and Charles Edward are the same person. I have listed a marriage for Evelyn Rubina Ivy WILLIAMS and it would be a co-incidence if there were two separate marriages for the same woman to two separate men with such similar names - however it is possible.

Electoral Rolls -
Rubina Ivy and Charles Edward COPPLEMAN, farmer, in Robina (near Bright) Vic in 1931
1936, 1937 Carl Edward and Rubina COPPLEMAN are in Malbina, Tasmania.
In 1943, 1949, 1954 Rubina's address is listed as Molesworth, Carl Edward still in Malbina
I cannot see any later entries for them - Rubina died 1957. There is a Charles Edward Lyall COPPLEMAN in Hobart in 1936-1954.
The Australian Cemetery Index only shows the burials for a Charles, Rubeena and their son as I have already given, plus others with the same surname. Sometimes a person is listed twice as a cross-reference with someone related.
I see no other recorded entries for a Rubeena/Rubina COPPLEMAN anywhere.
And following on from JM - the two charged men were quite naughty - painting a horse and a cow, indeed :o Well, it was New Year's Eve, which wouldn't have made the horse and cow any happier. ::)

The couple moved back to Tasmania between 1931 1nd 1936.
Their probable son, Lionel George COPPLEMAN seems to have either returned to or remained in Victoria. Here is a sighting in 1952 about a collision in Sale.

Thank you so much to you all for helping me with this illusive family, after looking through it all I have come to the conclusion you are all correct, it would seem Karl changed his name to Charles and Eveline to Rubeena and he also took the "K" off his surname.
I really have to feel for the poor horse and cow what a pair of rotters!!!
Thank you all again, your help is really appreciated and has saved me from looking any further, it's taken me years so I'm glad it has finally come to an end, couldn't have done it with out you all.
They were last seen in Beechworth in 1957 due to attending the funeral of Robina's mother, they must have returened home where Robina herself died a little later in that same year.
Kind Regards

I am interested in any information on Dorothy (Doris) Coppleman, who i understand was the daughter of Carl Christian Joseph Coppleman. I cannot find a birth certificate for her, but her marriage certificate indicates she was married to Horace Robert Townsend in Queenstown Tas, and was witnessed by Charles Coppleman. Does anyone know why the Copplemans moved to Victoria, and whether they had an existing connection there?
Kind Regards
Eleanor
