I am looking for the burial location of William James Ivory who died by suicide in August 1901. He body was washed up in TOVIL near Maidstone in Kent.
I have check and he is not in the following graveyards:
Maidstone Cemetery
Faversham cemetery
Davington Church
St Mary of Charity, Faversham
I am trying to locate the churches Parish records in Toveil but no luck yet.
Any help would be gratefully received

The only William James Ivory listed on freebmd is recorded as dying in 1902 las quarter.
Where did you get your information from concerning his death?
There is a William Ivory who died in an accident at a brickworks at Lower Halstow Kent November 22 1902.

Hi Panda,
His death was classed as a death at sea and would not be on freeBMD. He committed suicide by throwing himself into the creek. His body was washed up at Tovil near Maidstone where the inquest was held. The William Ivory you have found is his cousin who happened to have been born in the same year and died in 1902. He was crushed by an electric car.

I searched the newspapers but could not find any records of this sad incident. You may have to ask someone to look in the Kent archives on their next visit to see if they can locate the information.

The KFHS have the MIs for St Stephen, Tovil on fiche but by this time churchyards were full so I would expect most burials to be in Maidstone Cemetery.
He is a mentioned in the South Eastern Gazette 10 September 1901.

Thanks you for looking both Panda and Bearkat, I have tried the cemeteries and no luck so only place I could think is church yards. Not sure what the procedure is for suicides being buried in church yards.
Do you have a scanned version of the South Eastern Gazette I could view?.

I wouldn't have thought there would have been a problem with a burial in a cemetery or churchyard. Normally the verdict of an inquest into suicide at that time would be "suicide during temporary insanity". This was the case in the suicide of my great grandfather who coincidentally also died in August 1901 and I found his burial in Chatham Cemetery.

Yes, you need to subscribe but the charge is £0 if you live in the UK.
