Could that be Elizabeth May James who married George Rodney Bayes in Kensington 1908 ?

Thanks for the reply. Yes my g grandparents Elizabeth James & George Rodney Bayes. How did you know her middle name was May I had no idea. I cannot find Elizabeth in any 1881-1901 seems a bit odd? Any help would be appreciated. Regards Lyn

There is a tree on the Ancestry site with them on and I found the marriage on FindMyPast. What information are you looking for as I can get it for you, if you haven't a subs on Ancestry.

Hi, I'm on FindMyPast finishing in Sept as the site has changed but not for the better, will then go to ancestry. I am looking for her parents,I do not believe she is the daughter of Robert James Blacksmith/Inn Keeper in Pontrhydyfendigaid as there is no birth record and he has a younger daughter Lizzie.Doesn't seem to make sense. Anyway hope you can help been on it about 18 months. Regards Lyn

Do you have if the probable marriage cert of Elizabeth James to George Rodney Bayes in 1908 that Ellenmai listed (Dec Qtr1908 Kensington Vol 1a Page 354)
If it is the right couple it should give Elizabeth's fathers name etc and help you find her in earlier censuses. Can't see the couple together in 1901

Last Census says Mar 11yrs but I cant find either of them in 1901!
Another possible Marriage Kensington Sept 1909 for a George Bayes (spouses are missing on FreeBMD)
Familysearch has a Bessie JAMES as possible Spouse
Both or either of them may have been Married before given their ages in 1911.

Sept 1910, BAYES, Olwen S , Swansea, 11a 1162
I cant find Gertrude c 1906 under Bayes
Ah I see where you got the James from (below) but I would caution you that earlier Children may have a different Mother or be Elizabeths from a earlier Marriage to a Mr James.

1901 Census has a possible George Bay born c 1868 London, lodging in St Pancras.
Unm, occp Ostler/Groom which is correct for next Census.

I would be getting Olwens Birth Cert if I was you to establish if Elizabeth James was married before.

Hi, I do have the 1908 Marriage certificate Elizabeths Father is down as Robert James deceased Blacksmith. Elizabeth is a spinster and George Bachelor. On Olwens birth certificate states George Rodney Bayes and Elizabeth as parents.Regards Lyn

Hi Lyn,
There are two trees with different information.
Elizabeth was born 1876 Pontrhydfendigaid, Ceredigion Died 1953 Grovesend, Swansea.On the second tree it states she was born 1876 Tregaron, Cardiganshire.
Father Robert James born 1852 Tregaron, Cardiganshire died 1915 Pontrhydfendigaid.
Mother Elizabeth Jones born 1852 ???? died 1923 Pontrhydfendigaid.
Elizabeth & George's children
Alice Gertrude Bayes born 1906 Kensington died 4/7/1952 Bristol.
Susan Bayes born 13/12/1908 Kensington died 29/1/1999 Llangennech, Carmarthenshire.
On another tree it just has a son
Fredrick Rees Bayes born 25/9/1913 Grovesend died 1987 Swansea.
I hope this helps, neither tree has added any Census information.

I have found the family on the 1881, 1891, 1901 & 1911 Census but no sign of Elizabeth.
1881 Census they are living at 13 Teify Street, Ponrhydfendigaid.
1891 Census Lisburne Arms, Bridge Street, Pontrhydfendigaid.
1901 Census still in Bridge Street.
If you are searching on FindMyPast put Caron instead of Pontrhydfendigaid they are noted for their very poor transcriptions for Wales. When I was searching Bangor, Caernarvonshire they have a lot of the records under County of Anglesey. ::)

Thanks for the info. That is why I find it hard to believe Elizabeth is the daughter of Robert James,in 1881 census there was an Elizabeth born 1877 living with her grandmother Margaret Morris a few doors away from Robert James in Pontrhyd.. There's no record of Robert James being married twice. Regards Lyn

Just noticed Robert James Blacksmith on Elizabeths Marriage certificate of 1908 as being deceased.
1911 Cencus Robert James Lisbourne Arms Pontrhyd.. cannot be the same as he died in 1915 something does not add up! Regards Lyn

The age of the marriage cert would give Elizabeth's birth year as approx 1872.
I wonder if she was living in Kensington in 1901 listed as Elizabeth M James 30 b S Wales Cardiganshire, Wales working as a cook, which could explain where she met George
Re the witness - Susan White mother -Is she listed as Elizabeth's mother or was mother her surname?

Hi, Susan White was Thomas Bayes widowed mother she remarried William White,she was a witness at the wedding. It could be an explanation how she came to meet George if Elizabeth was working in Kensington. Regards
