Post by: Jedi James on Monday 23 June 14 12:32 BST (UK)
Hi To all in tyhe Community.
I have found the marriage of my 3x Great Grandparents, James parsons and Charlotte Banks, The Wedding took place on 19th April 1834 in Horley,Surrey. I Found the Marriage on Family search and cannot find the Parents of the couple.
Charlotte Banks was Born approx 1811 and James parsons was born approx 1806.
I would like to add the parents to my tree.
Please help if Possible.
Regards
Jedi james.

So do you know where Charlotte and James were born?  On the freeregs t ere are several James Parson bap in Surrey, no bap for Charlotte Banks in Surrey.

So the 1841 census should say where they were living and if they were born in the same County andthe 1851 will/should tell you where they were born

For example there is a Charlotte Parsons in the 1881 census down as Mother in Law, the head of the house is Henry Fry and wife Elizabeth and Charlotte was born in Kendal, Westmorland

That one is in the register for St Bartholomew, Horley.  Edward and Mary Bankes also baptised Ann 25 Ocober 1801,  William 13 January 1805 and Lucy 4 July 1813. The last entry records that Edward is a farmer.

The marriage of James Parsons and Charlotte Banks was by licence. Witnesses were Samuel and Mary Parsons.  The marriage allegation dated 15 April 1834 states that James Parsons is of the parish of Charleswood, a bachelor aged 26. Charlotte Banks is of the parish of Horley, spinster aged 23.

Spellings of names were not as rigid in the early 19thC as they are today, so if the parish clerk who wrote those entries (it looks like the same hand each time for the four baptisms) decided that Banks should have an 'e' in it, that's how it would be written. Edward Banks himself might not even have seen the register.  Other records of Edward Banks of Horley (there are a few land tax records) mostly record the name as Banks.
