Title: Makaraka Cemetery, Gisborne, N.Z. (Houhoupiko)
Post by: proteanz on Wednesday 25 June 14 02:55 BST (UK)
Greetings, I am in the process of collecting family data from relatives of people buried in the above cemetery.  There are some 4200 buried there, and if I can get at least 100 families data given to me, I would like a book to be printed of these.   There are some important people in Gisborne's history here, and I think they are very worthy of having their stories put into print.  Any profits from the sale of such a book would go to the headstone restoration fund, where we can endeavour to stop the pace of the ravages of time on the remaining headstones, and also help to get the 87  headstones, plus some fragments from out of a surveyed trench.   Anyone wishing to donate their families story - where they came from, why they came, how they came, what they did in Gisborne, and a photo or two, possible 1 - 2 A4 pages  we would be very very grateful.
