Title: Norman Timms, b. Long Crendon abt 1904
Post by: jenn270 on Thursday 26 June 14 01:49 BST (UK)
In the 1911 census Norman Timms is shown as the grandson of Herbert & Harriet Timms. Since all their children lived, he must be the son of either Gertrude or William, their eldest children. Is there any way without ordering a birth record that I can determine who at least one of his parents was?

You could also try to get his baptism record?

See: https://apps2.buckscc.gov.uk/eCommerce/process/product/ProductDetailedDescription.aspx
Cost is £5 + £2 postage! ;D

Probablyas well to get the Birth Certificate from GRO at £9.25, post free?

Hi

What about the other 2, elder/eldest children = Ralph(bc1889) and Jessie(bc1891) ?
How have you discounted them, just "age"?

I agree with KG, such a small amount to save/eliminate (guess)work

Herbert Timms of Long Crendon dies 1938, leaves a will and probate is granted to Reginald Timms and Ralph Betts Timms.
You could get a copy of his will and see if it mentions his grandchild(ren), but again that will be more expensive than buying a birth cert.  And it may not give any indication about Normasns parentage, though may reveal other useful info (or may not).
Birth cert seems the best option, and as others have said, is a lot better than guesswork!

It may be best to review this thread before attempting more searching . . . . .

In the following "decade", in the "same" area, there are other Timms births where mmn is also Timms.
Including a Gertrude and a Reginald.
I will not search/post any further info, Rootschat rules apply because they may still be living. . . . . .

Thanks to all for your helpful tips! I have been in touch with other family descendants so perhaps they may have some additional information about Norman. If all else fails then we'll have to purchase the birth certificate. I just wanted to be sure there wasn't some other obvious way of checking that I was overlooking.
