Hi, I am looking for information on John Hodgson born Nth Watlington (Kings Lynn), Norfolk about 1884. Also his wife Agnes Hodgson her maiden name may have been Fendley. uncertain if they were actually married. I understand he was a blacksmith labourer in 1901 as a 13/15 year old.

Hi
he married Agnes Mary Elizabeth Tullett in Kings Lynn reg distr in 1908.
He uses the name Fendley when he marries and in 1911 census as it is his birth surname.
His mother Isabella did not marry John Hodgson until 1887

John seems to have used both Hodgson and Fendley. His birth was registered in Downham June 1885 as John William Fendley, The 1891 and 1901 censuses both give his name as Hodgson but in adult life he seems to have reverted to Fendley.
In 1911 John William and Agnes Mary Fendley were living in Terrington St Clement Cambridgeshire with 2 children Arthur John and Florence Rebecca Fendley.
John William's death was registered under both surnames his actual birth date was 15th April 1885, his death was registered in Kings Lynn Sept 1980 aged 95.

In which year did John Fendley Hodgson start his own blacksmith business?
-
Hi, can you tell me what Florence Rebecca Fendley died of. She was born 1910 and died in 1913.(July to Sept register). Her death was registered in the district of Wisbeach but born in Kings Lynn. Her parents were John William Fendley(or Hodgson?) and Agnes Mary Fendley(Or Hodgson)?
Also is it possible to find out when Barry Roger Plowright died? I think he as born in 1941, in the first quarter, and may have lived only a very short time. His parents were Ralph and Agnes Plowright and lived in Kings Lynn, Norfolk.
Many many thanks. Maz.

Is it true that years ago, when a baby died, probably at birth, they were buried in a coffin with another person who had also died?
Thank you, Maz

Hi,

I am confused. Could anyone years ago just use any surname they wanted to without officially changing it? My grandfather, John William Hodgson(Fendley) appears to have done this!! Can I find out if my grandfather officially ever changed his name? Many thanks.

It is hard to know if John Hodgson was John William Fendleys Father or not as he was born a few years before the Marriage of John to Isabella.
Illegitimate children often used their birth surname or Mothers new Husbands surname in records.
They often switched between them as John William did.
