Hi
I have just received a copy of my grandmothers birth certificate from 1905 and there are no fathers details given and my Nan's surname is that of her mothers maiden name as on the certificate. Place of birth is shown as 700 Hucknall Road Nottingham and this is the same address as listed for the informant an A.H Measures (I think this is what the surname says) so as she was born at the same address as the informant I am wondering if this was a work house or place for unmarried mothers.
Thanks any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Rosie99,
will have to try and find if there are any records left.....

Have you looked at the page for the workhouse from the link I gave, that would normally give information on what is available

I have gt grandparents that died there. In 1921 and 1929 if you put the address in google search , what comes up is Nottingham City Hospital ,im almost sure they were not in the workhouse there.

This article refers to the demise of the workhouses around 1930.

My aunt died in 1934 in what used to be a workhouse. Apparently my Nan was extremely upset that her daughter 'died in a workhouse' although by then it was a hospital. My father died in the same place in the early 1990's, it is still being used as a hospital today.

can understand that Rosie99 it was abit upsetting releasing that my Nan was born in a workhouse......

My gt grandfather was and he was still there age 9 after his mother had died. :'(
It makes you think how lucky we are.

Hello! Just wondering if you managed to find any records for 700 Hucknall Road? My great grandmother was born there in 1913 and am trying to find out information.
Thanks!
-
Hi,
I managed to confirm that 700 Hucknall Road was the workhouse and as this was prior to the start of the National Health Service is was the only form of hospital assistance available.
Nottingham Records Office do have the admission, discharge and medical records for the Workhouse on microfiche, and I managed to view the details of when my Great Grandmother was admitted and discharged with my Grandmother and also in the medical records how much my Grandmother weighed when she was born.
Of the top of my head I can't remember the date range of the records, my Grandmother was born in 1905, as your Great Grandmother was born in 1913 it might be in the same record set but if it was a later one it may still be closed due to the 100-year rule, but you could check with the records office when they are open, or email them. I found them very helpful

Thank you that's really interesting!
Do you have their email address or know where I might find it?
Thank you :)

Their email is archives@inspireculture.org.uk
Not sure if they will be covering emails as they will be closed due to being in tier 3/4
Good luck
