Title: LILLIS
Post by: Yonks Ago on Saturday 05 July 14 12:09 BST (UK)
Hello folks,

Seeking LILLIS family researchers, I have very little other than Stephen Joseph LILLIS born about 1860 parents maybe John Lillis and mother Mary. If Im on the right track John Lillis was with the 69th Regiment and came to Australia with his wife and children.

Many thanks
Yonks

It appears that the name Lillis is predominately from County Limerick and Clare. Your John may be able to be found by consulting the Griffiths Valuation ?

There is a Stephen Lillis 1858, father John, mother Mary Parish St.Marys RC Limerick
On RootsIrelsnd put Joseph into the search and it's no result.

It's pay to view, transcriptions only.
Even if it's correct how will you know if your not sure of parents names.
A marriage or army records would be more useful at this stage.

There are 15 John Lillis in Limerick in Griffith's.
I'm not saying your wrong with the Limerick City guy but you need more.
The St.Marys Church Baptisim has another with same parents Mary Ann in 1857.
Do you know if he had a sister?

No don't know of any siblings, but I'm happy with what I have at the moment with just Limerick as I didn't know before where in Ireland.
This chap married into my family and I don't go past the parents.

Thanks you for your help.
Cheers

Your choice, the circumstantial evidence isn't bad but wouldn't be enough for most people.

Yes my choice, Lillis married my Great Aunty..I have his death cert..it says born Limerick..which suits me..it says his parents as John and Mary..which suits me..I have been researching many many years..and have not followed on the line that is not my family, and I'm very happy with his birth county..and his parents names..one day I may get his birth/c.

I'm trying to find out about a John Lillis from Limerick in the early 1800s who had a daughter Sarah, born around 1822 and transported to Australia around 1840. Apparently he had a large family. Wife's name possibly Alice... maybe an earlier relative of your John Lillis?
