Title: Seatown in Lossiemouth

According to the 1881 census my great-grandmother, Margaret  Lamb, lived at 25 Street B. During a visit to Lossiemouth last year, I was told that Street B was Church St. However, I just noticed that in the 1885 Valuation Roll, Margaret Lamb is listed as a tenant at House and Garden, Seatown. On the same page, there are references to Streets B and D in Seatown. Was Church St. located within Seatown? Hopefully someone can clarify this for me. Thanks.

Church Street is in Seatown.

Not at the moment. But when I get access to the 1881 census I will have a look and see what I can deduce.

I have got the CD-ROM transcription of the 1881 census to hand now. Street B is listed in Enumeration District 2, along with
Toll District
Station Hotel
Street A
Quarry Court
Park Place
Coulard Place
The Deanery
Rock House
Kinneddar Cottage
Free Church Manse
Newton Cottage
Rock Cottage
Ogston Lane
Rose Lane
Chapel Lane
United Presbyterian Manse
Allan Lane
Queens Lane
Lossiemouth House
Drainie Place
Athole Place
Market Place
Seatown Road
The various lanes (Ogston, Allan, Queens, Chapel, Rose) are the lanes that cross Church Street at right angles. Rock House, Rock Cottage, the Deanery, Free Church Manse, Newton Cottage and Lossiemouth House are or were all on what is now Clifton Road, and I am pretty sure that is Street A.

Therefore I am 99% certain that Street B is indeed Church Street.
