Hi Guys,
This is my first post on here (or any forum if I'm honest) but I feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall! My Mum passed away and was cremated, but her last wish was to have some of her ashes on both her parents graves! we found my Grandads but cannot find my Nans (even though both my uncles were at her funeral they have been no help) I know she is buried in Harehills Cemetery in Leeds, and her name is either Jean or Jeanie Gibb, I THINK she died in 93'.... Is there ANY way i can find her? I have been on their web page but it was no help really!
Thanking you in advance for any help
A VERY stressed....
Lisa :'(

As Leeds City Council Bereavement Services hold the burial records for Harehills Cemetery in Leeds you could ask them to search that year [a fee is payable]. If you are sure that she was not buried with her husband it may be that the Burial Rights had not been renewed [passed to her as part of the estate?] and if that was the case she may have been buried in a separate unmarked grave termed a Common Grave.

Welcome to RootsChat ;D
Are we talking about Jeanie Anderson Gibb? If so then there is a death registration in Leeds Registration District in August 1993. The entry says that she was born 19 October 1929 and was aged 63 at death.
Or, are we talking about Jean Bell Gibb? If so then there is a death registration in Leeds Registration District in April 1991. The entry says that she was born 20 February 1903 and was aged 88 at death.
Hope this helps :)

There also appears to records of MI's at Leeds Central Library see http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/ENG-YKS-LEEDS/2004-12/1104479396
On the other hand if it was a Common Grave there will not be a marker or headstone.

Why not ask the same question over at Yorkshire Indexers?

Currently transcribing the Harehill burials.

Hi...I'm very interested in locating my grandparents graves in Harehills cemetery Leeds too, no idea how to go about it. Can someone tell me who to contact so that I might visit these graves please? Total and utter novice here.

And a warm welcome from me Paula.
Have you names for your grandparents and a possible year of death.
[Will have a look through my Leeds burial records]
Brian
-
Thank you
My grandma was Letitia Hobson and my grandfather was Percy (Percival?) Hobson...I know Percy died in the 50's but no idea when Letitia died.
Thank you
-
Welcome, Paula
Letitia Hobson's death was recorded in Leeds - March quarter 1945 - aged 53
Percival G Hobson's death was recorded in Leeds - December quarter 1951- aged 60
-
WOW...thank you very much, I've always wondered when they passed. Do you have any idea how I could maybe locate their graves at all? I honestly have never done anything like this before so have no idea.
-
If Brian can locate the burials from his Leeds records, then you will know which cemetery they are in. If they are not recorded in his records, then you will probably have to resort to dawnsh's suggestion.
Good luck!

HOBSON, Pearl aged 9 years 1935 Unconsecrated K200
HOBSON, Letitia aged 53 years 1945 Unconsecrated K200
HOBSON, Paul George aged 60 years 1951 Unconsecrated K200
No sign of Percy, will have a look round.

Blimey, thank you SO much, I wouldn't know where to start...thank you ever so much.
-
Paul George? Those details sound like Percys...wonder if it was the same person?
-
No sign of a Percy Hobson buried in Leeds?
Brian
-
Thank you Brian, I'm wondering now with you posting about a Paul George if that was Percys real name...I have never heard of this person in my family otherwise, and as he's in the same grave as Letitia my grandmother, and her daughter Pearl, it sounds like it could be him. Do you agree? If that's the case you've told me something that no one else in my family knows.
-
All I have is a list of names telling me who is buried in a particular location cross referenced to a shared plot.
Brian
-
Very interesting anyway...thank you very much to everyone.
-
The death was registered as Percival G Hobson - according to the GRO Index. Unfortunately YorkshireBMD for Leeds does not extend as far as 1951. There is no sign of a Paul Hobson being registered in 1951. I think that somewhere along the line Percival has become Paul - perhaps a transcription error along the way :-\
-
Oh right...I see. Thank you
-
My source for the above burial details has been notified of error in transcription!
(Thanks BumbleB for a quick notification)
Brian

Hi Brian: not sure of your source for the burial details, but the Leeds and District Burials CD from Yorkshire Indexers has the entry as Paul George Hobson, buried on 6 December 1951. We're possibly talking the same source. My source for the death registration was Ancestry, but I did look at the image for "Hobson".

I really appreciate all the work you guys have done for me today, I think I need to take a bus to Harehills cemetery and try to find the plot now...if that's possible. Thank you again
-
I have attached a layout map of Harehills!
Try not to get lost. lol
Brian

Oh wow, is there anything you can't provide for this novice?...you're wonderful, thank you so much. I'm just emailing my brother to ask if he wants to come with me to locate.
What a wonderful site and people...thank you!
-
Happy hunting Paula, no guarantee a memorial there.
Brian
-
oh really?....so there might be nothing to identify where they are then do you mean? Oh well, I will still go with my brother and take a look. I'm very keen now you've provided me with so much information. Thank you so much again.

My grandma died in 1969 and I think she may have been buried in Harehills cemetery or cremated at Cottingley Hall Crem- how would I go about finding out?
Her name was Irene Wileman.
Any help that anyone could give would be really appreciated.
Thanks

Any luck with the search?
Brian

Hi Brian,
Thanks for asking- I've given them a call and they said they would have a look and get back to me within a few days (so fingers tightly crossed!).
I hope you don't mind me asking again but my great grandma I think may be buried at Harehills cemetery. She was called Philomena Henderson and I think died in 1988. Is this something you could check?
Thank you
-
My records only go as far as 1984 for Harehills!
Brian
-
Ah- no worries. Thanks anyway.
I will let you know if I have any luck with the council :)
