Title: Ann Jones of Luton
Post by: 0191alex11 on Tuesday 15 July 14 14:50 BST (UK)
Hi!
Can anyone help with the following?

I have an Ann Jones marrying a John Okey/Oakey at Luton in 1726. Have checked for possible baptisms for Ann and only one seems to fit the correct dates?

Ann Jones baptised 27 April 1707 Bedord St Mary, daughter of a Matthew Jones and his wife Joan Hipwell. If Ann is this daughter she had the following siblings:

Robert Jones baptised 31 May 1702 Bedford St Mary

Mary Jones baptised 25 February 1705 Bedford St Mary

Lovey (?) Jones baptised 2 December 1711 Bedford St Mary

Mary Jones baptised 16 January 1715 Bedford St Mary

There is a possible Matthew Jones baptised 8 February 1669 at Willington who married Joan Hipwell on 2 November 1699 at Kempston (Joan Hipwell baptised 15 May 1673 at Melchbourne).

Any help much appreciated! :D

With such a common surname how do you know she was born in Bedford if she married in Luton

That's the Meatloaf method of genealogy - Two out of Three Ain't Bad

The name's right
The date's right
The place is wrong, but don't be sad
'Cos two out of three ain't bad

What if - Ann was a widow?

Or look laterally. There were two other Jones marriages in Luton 1728-1730, Elizabeth and George. Can you trace these?

Did John and Ann Okey name any children Matthew or Joan?

I reckon that the Ann Jones baptisms in Millbrook in 1701, Bedford St Peter in 1702 and Clophill in 1709 would also be possibilities, although there's a Millbrook marriage in 1724 which might rule this one out

Hi to all,
I have only put the information on Rootschat to see if anyone can help, and base it on what I have been researching myself in the hope someone can confirm what I have or point me in the right direction! I appreciate everyone taking the time to help, and I also research as much as I can so thanks to all who have replied!

Have checked on Familysearch for any children of Richard Carte and Elizabeth Jones, and also George Jones ad Ann Turner but cannot find any, only the children of John Oakey and Ann Jones, so will keep on looking!

The problem is that familysearch does not cover every record in Bedfordshire.  They updated their site and a lot of records vanished.  I have family that once showed on the site living in Bedfordshire and the records are no longer there.  :'(

Does the marriage give any indication as to whether Ann was widowed or the parish they came from.

Rosie, do your missing entries appear on the member submitted database? When the LDS had a clear up a few years ago, and deleted duplicated entries, for some inexplicable reason they deleted the extracted entry, whilst retaining the member submission.

Hi David and Rosie!
Thanks for your help. On Familysearch you are right there are a lot of records which appear to be there one minute then not there the next. I have based my information on Ann Jones from my research from Familysearch and also from what I have gained from Rootschat. Think I may have a headache by the end of the day! :D

Firstly John Oakey/Oakley married Ann IONS/IARNS at Luton on 27 Jan 1726/27 as per the Luton parish register transcript, I told you that yesterday. I don't know where you got the JONES name from. The name most likely is IRONS as this appears many times in the transcript.

That's the trouble with the OAKEY/OKEY; once you've put one name in & then take it out, and shake it all about and turn around.....that's what its all about! Hey...... :D

Cheers John

I did not mean 'there one minute gone the next'  I am talking about records I saw about 8 years ago that are no longer there.  ;D

Hi David,

They were extracted.  I never did take any notice of submitted ones far too many errors.  ;D

Luckily I also backed it up with viewing the films so have pages of handwritten notes.  ;)
