Title: Mac OS/X - Underlining
Post by: Lookin2 on Wednesday 16 July 14 15:29 BST (UK)
I am writing a report and wish to underline some of it.  I used Command-U and "Format" flashes on top line of Mac.  I would like to know how can I  underline just words or headings and not the whole page.  Is there a short cut to do that. ??? Lookin2

Might help if you say what program you are using to write the report in.  ;)

Highlight the text you wish to underline, then go to Format> Font>Underline  that should do the trick.

Highlighting the required text and using Command>U has always worked for me in most programmes. Similarly >I, >B, >X, >C and >V for italics, bold, cut, copy and paste respectively. I believe such things also work on windows based operating systems but have no wish to go there.

Thanks Ray and all others who responded.  I am of an age when typewriters were used and underlining was a simple thing without having to use an app or four keys  to get the job done.  Lookin2

I suppose it depends on whether they still make "Tipex" or "Snowpake" as it used to be called.

You mean back-spacing over the words to be underlined, and then typing the underline character?! ;D
Now you just highlight and press the necessary key combination! Simples!! ;D ;D

More detail please:

What Mac are you using? Model? Year? Memory?

Which Mac OS? - X I assume? 10.14; 10.13; or 10.12 etc?

What software: Pages or Word or what?

OK, but while there was no response and "Select text, cmd U" seemed not to cover the wide range of hardware and software that could be involved, I thought I should try to help.

I am from the same era as you but got involved with micro computers in 1975.

I hope that means oyu got it sorted. I can rest easy

Thanks

It’s worked on every MAC I’ve had in the last 20 years.
