I am trying identify "my" Isabella Calvert please. Born c1793 where unknown. Married St Mary Walthamstow to John Skeggs in 1807. I am trying to obtain additional information as to parents of Isabella and where born.
I do know that:
Her parents are not Nicholson Calvert and Frances Pery
Isabella did not marry Sir James Matthew Stronge 2nd Baronette
Any information or direction will be gratefully received.

The records from that time don't show the parents. It's does say she's from upminster though and that he was a widower and she was a spinster. Do you have a rough date of birth for her?
-
Just read the 1793 birth. Seems a bit unlikely, although not impossible, as she would have been 13/14 at her marriage?
-
1841 I presume they are in Edmonton, Middlesex?
John Skeggs 60
Isabella Skeggs 50 (1791), not born in County
Wm Skeggs 20
There is a Burial of a Isabella Skeggs, 4 Oct 1846, Hoxton St John, age 59, Birth c 1787
+ a John Skeggs same Church, 22 March 1850, age 74, Birth c 1776

Thank you ever so much. This provides a further course to research and hopefully capture the elusive right people.

The marriage took place by licence and the licence is with Faculty Office Marriage Licences
You can order a copy for £10 as this may give further information about Isabella.

Thanks for your reply. I could only work out the date of birth from the 1841 census, & given that they rounded down the ages, that doesn't really help. Roughly born 1791. I know that she wasn't born in Middlesex because she declares that on the census. I have info from the LDS film, but it only gives her name. Where did you see that she comes from Upminster?
-
On her marriage record.
So she was definitely born in county (Essex) on the 1841 census?
I couldn't find her birth in upminster. Maybe she was working there at the time of her marriage. She could from somewhere near there though.

Do you have any other info about her e.g. Children she had?
-
Hi, thanks for all this information. I am leaving it for Jenafa51 to continue pursuing as I just started a dialogue from her questions regarding her "people" at our local FHS in OZ and introduced her to Rootschat - simply the best resource. You folk are amazing with your knowledge where best to locate things. Regards,

Children I have found so far - Abraham b 1809, Joseph b 1811, Isabella b 1813, James b 1815, William b 1817 & John b 1820. The marriage I found did not include Upminster in the records. I will have another look right through the whole film this time. It is all typewritten, so it will be easy to go through again. Their marriage was very early in the film, but maybe something else is listed further on.
I have tried to look through other family trees on Ancestry, but they all seem to have Isabella's parents as Nicholson & Frances…. def not her.
Thanks for any help you can add.

Hi Trish…
Yes, I have all the info you have listed, plus found other children - Abraham, Joseph, Isabella, James & John, all born Mdsex. Most of the births I have found for Isabella, even after widening the birth range are in Yorkshire. Was I wrong to disregard these as it was so far away from London? I have even looked for clues in the naming of her children, as they were often called after parents, grandparents etc.
Perhaps I should look for trees with the children on them… I might get somewhere there. Still, anymore ideas. new leads will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jennie

I had a look at the marriage and there is no mention of Upminster, so don't know where that comes from. Going by Boyds marriage index and the National Burial Index, there seem to be very few Calverts in Essex, so in all probability Isabella may not have come from Essex at all. Try getting the marriage licence as this might include a close relative.

Hi - I'd love to know what progress you've made with this. My maiden name was Skeggs, so I'm s descendant of John.
