I have a marriage record for William Peake, of Pen-y-Bryn, Corwen and Winifred Jones of Queens Inn, Corwen, and yet they are married in Pontfadog, Llangollen instead. Why would this be? - could it be one of the families was originally from there perhaps?
Also if anyone can help with any connections between the Peakes and Jones, I have posted in Merionethshire forums!!
-
Also a possibility that one of them moved there for work and the other followed.

If you have found on Family Search that they married in Pontfadog invariably all these marriages took place at Llangollen itself.
Regards
William Russell Jones.

They both lived in Corwen all their life though which is what makes it a mystery!!

Not wanting to cast aspersions on your family in any way, but I have two instances in my tree where a couple have married in a neighbouring parish to that which they grew up in and subsequently lived in after marriage, and in each case their first born's birthdate was somewhat less than nine months after the marriage ::), so I suspect they tried to marry outside the parish to avoid drawing attention to the fact! Also, I understand that some clergymen were more amenable to marrying those in this situation than others!

Rainbow quartz,
Thank you for this information!! I think it must be this, as they appear to have had a daughter born out of wedlock!!
Fascinating and useful to know, thanks again for this information!
