Hello
In the 1911 census Jonathan Steele, born 1866 is living in the Ship Inn Great Clifton with his wife Maria and children John and Gerard Steele
It states that they have had three children, but by 1911, one has died.
Now there is a pretty accurate tree on my heritage that states the third child was Annie Mary Steele, born 1899 in Cockermouth.
However, this child should have been put on the 1901 census, but is absent.
Checking the death records, there is not a Annie Mary Steele dying between 1899 and 1901, there is a Annie Maria C Steele dying in 1896, this could be her, but the birth year is off by two years
Any help in clearing up the confusion would be appreciated

If it is the same tree the owner states that Annie Mary is listed as an adopted daughter of Jonathan and Maria in 1911 census??

Yeah, sorry I didn't check the fine print :-\

If Annie Mary Steele is not their children, then who was the third child whom died before 1911?

Searching for Births and Deaths on FreeBMD in Cockermouth between 1893 and 1901 there appear to be a few options

No name Kay?

It appears this one was given no name. There was another possible child but he would have been born too close to Gerard.

Yes, perhaps there is a baptism for the child that died and most likely a burial. :-\
