I have an old photo of 'Feoffee Cottages' in Toddington, Bedfordshire, it features five women, two of whom are of interest to me...Mrs Randall aged 76 and Miss Randall aged 95....the photo was taken in 1930, i know this is probably a long shot, but i'd really like to know the two ladies Christian names, and i was wondering if they might have been mentioned on the census for 1931!!!!....
Cheers Ez

Hi China
They might have been, but as the census was completely and utterly destroyed in a fire in 1942 it's all hypothetical.

Hi China,
Been a long time. There is a newspaper obituary for a Phoebe Randall held at the National Archives, sorry don't know what year for.
Also on the Toddington Village page on FB there is a lady who posted 2 days ago about the Randalls in Toddington maybe she might be able to help you.
Regards
Lyne

A Phoebe Randall age 98 died in 1900 in Ampthill registration district which includes Toddington. And a Rebecca Randall age 97 died in 1932 also in Ampthill registration district

Good find David, I have just found some information that says Rebecca was born about 12/4/1835 parents James and Mary. So Rebecca is possibly the Miss Randall in the photo.

I can't see any female Randall deaths in Ampthill registration district which would equate to a 76 year old in 1930

Thanks for your help guys, it's much appreciated...... ;) :) ;)

In 1911 Rebecca Randall age 75 & sister Sarah age 85, both single, both born Toddington were living in Widows Cottages, Widows Yard, Toddington. Back to 1901 Rebecca 65 & Sarah 74, now born Charlton, are living in Feoffee Yard, Toddington - I'm assuming the same place as 1911 because the neighbours are the same. Back to 1891 Sarah 64 & Rebecca 55 are with widowed brother James 58 living in Osborns Cottages Toddington. In 1881 Rebecca age 45 is with widowed mother Mary Randall born 1797 living in Feoffee Cottages. As David has found Rebecca age 97 died Sept 1932 whilst sister Sarah died Sept 1913 in Ampthill RD age 87.
Thus it seems certain that the 95 year old Miss Randall in your 1930 photo is Rebecca but there's not much evidence to identify the 76 year old Mrs Randall. Have you looked through the Toddington church burial records to try & find her? Next stop Beds Archives...

As per Toddington Cemetery/Burial Ground registers that are available at Beds Archives....
The 76 year old Mrs Randall most likely is Marcella Ann Hook Randall buried 21 Aug 1935 age 80 (so born 1855). She was a widow, her abode was Foffee Yard, Toddington & died at Luton Infirmary (hence her death index is Luton RD)
As per 1891, 1901 & 1911 census she is born Teynmouth, Devon and her husband is William Randall born 1863 Toddington. in 1911 she was living in Station Road, Toddington which was the abode of William Randall when he was buried on 28 July 1923 age 61.
Rebecca Randall, spinster of Toddington was buried 2 July 1932 aged 97 years.
Sarah Randall, spinster of Almhouses Toddington was buried 12 July 1913 aged 87. The service carried out by the Vicar of Chalgrave.
So what's the connection between Rebecca & Marcella then ?
