Title: Daniel Betton of Worthen 1699-1729
Post by: escortmad79 on Tuesday 12 August 14 11:45 BST (UK)
Looking for further information on Daniel Betton of Worthen, born 1699.

He married Ann Picken/Pickin on 5th February 1720 aged 21 and died aged 30 in 1729 at Worthen.

They had a son, Daniel born in 1729.

Looking for information on his parents & any further descendants as they are not listed on Ancestry.com.

Also any information relating to his cause of death at such a young age (30) in 1729.

Daniel Betton (1699-1729) is my 7x Great Grandfather

Daniel and Ann - children
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/N2PD-X88  she must have died - another Anna 18 months later
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JM99-6R4
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/N2PD-M6R

I wonder if from 1720 - 1725 if Daniel and Ann were not livin
g in Worthen ??...seems a long time since the marriage to the first born = almost 5 years  ??

ADDED...presuming the second Anna Betton survived - maybe you should try and find who she married around 1747 ..1757 ???...you might then be able to come forward with her marriage and children ??

the family are still in Worthen in 1803 - 70 years later
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/JWSB-JMG
his parents were John and Martha
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/N2P8-VP1 ......John Betton to Martha Clifford
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NKHP-J6N   so looks like Martha was from Shrewsbury..

aa routeplanner states Shrewsbury to Worthen is 15 miles ...

Daniel (Danielus/Danielis) Betton married Ann(e) Pickin/Picken (Ancestry have her as Picken but her Father as Pickin!) at Prees, Shropshire on 5th February 1720.

No idea on occupation I'm afraid

Lots of Betton's in these links.

Cannot see your Daniel Betton born 1699. But there might be a connection to the Bishop's Castle family. Daniel baptised 2nd Feb 1631 at Bishop's Castle, son of Daniel and Priscilla Betton

Daniel betton Snr was my 6x great grandfather Daniel Jnr my 5th.  For me the line then goes 4th great grandfather John betton born 1754 3rd great grandfather Daniel born 1790-1844. Daniel Betton born 1790 was transported to van diemans land (Tasmania) in 1839 and at this moment I am sitting waiting for a flight to Tasmania! Daniel was accidentally killed in a farming accident in 1844 and while I am in tassie I will visit the area where he died!

I made a mistake in my initial post, Daniel Betton was my 3 x great grandfather, sentenced to 10 years transportation alongside his nephew George Betton for stealing wood and fowl.

George is the son of Edward Betton, Daniels older brother.  Edward's third son, John, was also transported for 7 years in 1846 for stealing 2 rabbits and 2 fowl.

I have written 2 case studies on Daniel and George as part of a diploma of family history I am studying at the University of Tasmania, they each didn't fair well after their arrival in the colonies George finding himself on Norfolk Island at one point during his sentence.

John's story is a little less scant but he did have a longer, less traumatic journey.

If anyone is interested in more information on these three Betton's contact me via my email address carol.brunt@yahoo.com.au
