Title: Where is William STEWARD in 1891 COMPLETED
Post by: Pat on Friday 15 August 14 03:45 BST (UK)
Hoping someone can help to find William Steward on the 1819 Census.
I have not been unable to find an 1891 census to see where he was living later in life.  According to other census he had been in Terrington St. Clements for most of his life.

William Steward was born Terrington St. Clements 1810/11.  I am trying to find his death.  There is a burial on  Free Reg. 30 Jan 1900 in Terrington St. Clements.  The age given as 90 fits.  The only death I have been able to find is Mar Qt. 1900 in Holbeach, Lincs.  This is on Free BMD. The age given is 90 also.
I am reasonably sure Holbeach was not the registration district for Terrington St. Clements  so I am unsure if this is the correct death.
Any help would be most appreciated as I do not want to send for the wrong certificate.
Cheers, Pat.

Personally, I'd go for it given their proximity and the supposition that an old man may have died away from his lifelong village / desired burial place.

He's in the Wisbech Union Workhouse in 1891. Aged 80, a widower, retired Ag Lab.

Piece 1305, folio 95, page 3

Everyone on that page was born at Terrington St Clements.

A fine looking workhouse it was too http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Wisbech/

Hi Shaun,
Thank you very much for info. I cannot understand why the death would have been registered in Holbeach, but I think it is likely to be the right person.  I know he was a widower and an Ag Lab.
Now that you have shown me he most likely survived past the 1881 census, I shall take the chance and order a death cert.
Cheers.

You would expect the death registration to be in Wisbech. I wonder if "Holbeach" is a GRO typo.

That's what I can't understand.  But it's the only person who fits the bill, so I'm prepared to take a chance and order a cert. now.
