Title: John Stewart Born Wigtown Whithorn approx 1803 Father Hawthorn Stewart
Post by: David Harrison 1971 on Friday 15 August 14 08:00 BST (UK)
Hi I am trying to fin birth or baptism records for my ancestor John Stewart.  John's death certificate in 1870 (aged 66) gives his parents as Hawthorn(e) Stewart and Mary Stewart (nee Lawrie).  The 1851 census (Aberdeen) gives John's birthplace as Wigtown Whithorn.  I have searched high an low on Scotlandspeople site but can't find any birth records. Also locating his parents in the area at that time and of the right age is difficult. Any help is appreciated.

Regards

David

This caught my eye as our family had intermarriages with Hathorns who had originated from the Wigtownshire area.  By 1800 our family were no longer living in that exact part of Scotland.

I have wondered whether the Hathorns and Hawthorns could be the same family and the spelling was still fluid.

Could this post have anything to do with your family?
