Title: Jessie Mary Cornforth
Post by: 0191alex11 on Friday 15 August 14 11:18 BST (UK)
Hi!
Can anyone help with the following?

I have a Jessie Mary Cornforth on the 1911 Census living at Dawdon, Seaham Harbour with her grandparents.

She is listed as being 1 year old and born at Brancepeth. I believe her parents were a John Robert Cornforth and Hannah Mary Pattison who married  between Oct - Dec 1909 at Durham. Hannah Mary Cornforth (nee Pattison) is listed as dying ) Oct - Dec 1909, registered Houghton le Spring?

The only other record I can find for Jessie Mary Cornforth is for a one marrying at Wetherby in 1938 to a Wilfred Walker? No details either for John Robert Cornforth.

Any help much appreciated! :D

John Robert Cornforth's (b1892) military  record lists him  as a widower  with a daughter Jessie c/o Mrs  Pattison  of Seaham Habour.   Her  birth is listed as 30 Oct 1909

When he was discharged from the Army as a Sgt in the Durham Light Infantry on 3 June 1919 he was still listed as a widower.

I can't see another probable marriage.  There is a possible death in Durham although rather too young

In the early 1970s, my boyfriend and I stayed a couple of times at the pub in Thropton, Northumberland. The landlady, who was probably about 60, was a marvellous cook and cooked a meal for all who were staying, just as if it were her own house.  In the morning, wearing her dressing gown, she brought us tea in bed. When we went back the next year, having driven from London, she said "you're late. I'd almost given up on you. Dinner's ready". She was Jessie Cornforth.
