I am hoping someone could help me on the 1871 census my great grandmother alice Hurley was born in st George in the east . Wapping to George and robertina Sargent. Alice maiden name was Sargent. Been told she could have been born in scotland. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

On the 1871 Robertina (transcribed as Rosina for anybody looking!) was said to be from Montrose, Scotland. Is this where the confusion lies?

Alice silver is a very unusual name was silver her second name or full name. I wondered as my great grandmother was very dark skinned, possibly the sergeants were from iireland my mother said once that alice Hurley was welsh. Is there any info on robertina sergeant birthplace, which would be great to kn ow. Thank you.

So we see that the family appears to have moved to London from Scotland at some point between Robertinas birth amd Johns birth.
