Title: Died in WW1
Post by: Andrew Jordan on Wednesday 20 August 14 22:36 BST (UK)
hi

I am trying to do some military history on my family tree, I have my great grandfathers (William Infield Jordan) war medals so I have been able to trace him quite well but I am stuck with two family members who died during the war.
I have located when they died but would love to find out more about there battalions and war history ect.

first is Horace John Dexter born 16-9-1893 and died 22-3-1918
second is Reuben Deighton born abt 1896 and died 27-9-1914

any info would be of great interest

thanks in advance

Good place to start.

Also Commonwealth War Graves will give some info.

Reuben was 7th Bedfordshire Regiment killed in Battle of Somme 1916.

Horace was 9th Royal Sussex Regiment.

Their war diaries maybe online to download at national archives it will let you know where they were.

Most of the army's service records, about 2/3, were destroyed in the WW2 blitz, but what remain are available on Ancestry for which you have to pay,  or can consult at a public library in UK offering the service.
