Hi ,
trying to get a friend started from scratch. All she has at the moment is Mary Nora Miller b.1944 we think in Derry ( some of the family are still there)
Mary has recently died in England.
Any information at all about the Miller family will help.
thanks..............bigjon

If some of her family are still alive - details cannot be posted here. If you are looking for living relatives - please see http://www.rootschat.com/help/posting_guide.php
If she has recently died in England - her full date of birth and place of birth should be on her death cert

Hi Carole,
thanks for the reply.Mary only died a few days ago (not yet burried ) and place of birth is not known. She was born Dec.1944, possibly 31st.
She has no siblings alive and we are only looking for ancesters.
thanks.......bigjon

Did she marry in England? if so, her marriage certificate should list her father's name & occupation (unless illegitimate) and an address.
It sounds as though little information is known about her (in England at least) but something like an old address book might give clues to relatives in N.I.
Very few recent records will be available online.
If she was born 31 Dec.1944 her death would most likely be registered in the Jan./March 1945 quarter.
The online civil registration index for Northern Ireland (www.familysearch.org) only goes up to 1921 for Northern Ireland counties. GRONI (General Register Office Northern Ireland) also has a database online but birth records have 100 year restriction.
The latest N.I. census is 1921.

Thanks for that,
will get the marriage certificate and take it from there

Address at time of marriage was 7 Bann Drive, Londonderry.
The marriage was at St. Wulston catholic church,Vale Road,Stourport on Severn.

The 1975 address will be where the bride was living at the time but may not be where her family lived. Does it list an occupation for Robert Miller?
7 Bann Drive, Londonderry is not far from Altnagelvin Hospital so if she was working at the hospital it's possible she was living in rented accomodation convenient to work. Google maps and streetview cover the area.
Unfortunately with such recent dates it may be that you won't get much online (1911 census latest available, civil registration index only up to 1921, etc.).

Bigjon, the Belfast Telegraph has an obituary that might be relevant, as it has references to possibly living people, I've pm'ed you.
Edited to add: BTW, the Derry Journal published a list of the names of householders at addresses throughout the city in 1957 and has the following for Bann Drive:
7 Mary Millar

Hi there, my aunt knew the Millars who lived in 7 Bann Drive. Would Mary have been known as Marie. Married to a soldier possibly in England. Her mother was Mary and father ?? a busman. Mother died perhaps only last year or two in her 90s. Also Marie was born in Dungiven Road Waterside
Siblings - Patrick who may still be alive, Roy and Hilary both deceased. I do know where Patrick lived but havn't hear anything of him since Hilary died.

hello reichs,
thanks for your input. All you say is correct but we did not know where Mary (marie ) was born or that her father (Robert- known as Bertie ) was possibly a busman. He died when marie was quite young ( about 1950 ).
All these little bits of info are invaluable when you have nothing to go on. Records are proving very hard to find, ie. birth of marie- death of robert. I know mary senior was burried in Ballyoan cemetery so pehaps robert was too.
I will keep on digging...............................bigjon
