Hi there,

To help the Irish RChatters to help our OP, here's some info gleaned from the Tasmanian Archives online.

Martin COY departed Cork 13 April 1852 on the Lord Dalhousie, arriving Tasmania (Van Diemens Land) 14 August 1852.

His conduct record and indent and description list are available online at the free to search index
http://portal.archives.tas.gov.au/menu.aspx?search=11

Also transported at that time (on same ship, total 7 convicts) was a Peter COY who was also convicted at County Clare, tried on 16 January 1849, for Stealing 3 Sheep.   Peter COY died at Port Arthur (Penal institution), 18 Jan 1863.  The records show his native place was Co Clare and he was Roman Catholic, married, and aged 40 when transported.

Martin COY was tried at Clare 27 February 1849, stealing a sheep, the property of McKinown of Co Clare. (hard to read this surname on the image). He was married, a labourer, native place of Co Clare, aged 30.

Cheers,  JM

Hi there Jasmine,

The person who started this thread has not been online for quite some time - close to three years since he was last active as per his profile.
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=235904

Several of the regulars on the boards used our own resources and looked up information and posted in help in his quests back in 2014, and he last posted back in October 2014 on the following thread   re his ancestor, a John Joseph GEORGE https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=701266.0   Earlier he had been seeking the parents of John Joseph GEORGE, here: https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=696951.0

I hope this information is useful.  Unless Waynos2009 has changed email addresses or turned off notifications from RChat, it is likely he has been alerted to your posts.   If you make one more post, likely you will be able to send him your own personal message via RChat's PM system.   :)

Hello, I am also seeking further information about the Coy brothers: Michael, Martin and Peter for my stepbrother. He is a descendant via Michael and Margaret Coy. I have a great deal of information about them and their settlement in Tasmania in Port Cygnet and land they held there (Michael and Martin). Also some information about Bookeen in County Galway. Unfortunately, Peter Coy, did not do very well. He was repeatedly in trouble with the police for being destitute and eventually was sent to Port Arthur where he died at the age of 47 on 18 January, 1863.

Michael Coy married Margaret Jordan at Kinvara on 4 February, 1845. They are both noted as having one child on their convict records, yet it appears the child was not with Margaret at Grangegorman and doesn't appear to have gone to the colony with her. A note on Michael's prison record in Ireland suggests the child may have been with HIS mother.

Does anyone have any information on the Coy family in County Clare and this child?
