Title: Medical terms
Post by: Liverpooltree on Saturday 06 September 14 07:30 BST (UK)
I’ve come across the medical records of a very distant cousin who was admitted to the Cumberland Westmorland asylum (Garlands Hospital) in 1896. In her admission record it states in the initial diagnosis…

‘No cause known except remote HP on mother’s side’.

Does anyone happen to know what ‘HP’ means?

according to  Freedictionary the medical term for HP is History and Physical
doesn`t help much ??....I presume the mother had a physical condition that was passed on to the daughter ?
then again - that`s todays answer on freedictionary - maybe in 1896... HP meant something else then ?
hopefully a member with Medical knowledge can confirm or find another answer for you ...

What was the "initial diagnosis" ?
Might give us a clue.
