Hello,
I am looking for the birth of a Robert Francis Prentice. He was born on the 19th of February in 1895...apparently.
He was supposed to be born in Dringhouses Yorkshire but he MAY have moved at a young age to Syston Leicestershire.
I am also looking for the marriage of Robert to a Margaret Marian Cook who went by the name Marian. She was born on the 15th of March in around 1921 in Leicestershire. She died on the 25th of March in 2012. They settled in Gloucestershire.
Can anyone confirm this information or help?
Thank you

Thank you KGarrad. I can't seem to locate the actual birth nor can I find him on the 1901 or 1911 census either unfortunately.
-
Neither can I!!
Maybe he wasn't born a Prentice?
Can't find a marriage, either?
-
I'm wondering if they were married overseas?!

Hi
I can not find any records for, a Margaret Marian Cook, or any marriage for either of them, it seem strange, that there are no records, for Robert and Margaret under those names.
We then have a lot of evidence that, Robert, may have been, Francis Baron Prentice, I wonder if they were both, in some sort of undercover work, say, like the French Resistance, and they had to change there identity's.
Just my thoughts on this

Hi
From your original post
"I am looking for the birth of a Robert Francis Prentice. He was born on the 19th of February in 1895...apparently.
He was supposed to be born in Dringhouses Yorkshire but he MAY have moved at a young age to Syston Leicestershire.
From your other linked topic, he also had a Navel background
There are no birth, census or naval records found, under the name of Robert Francis Prentice.
We then have a, Francis Baron Prentice b 1896 Dringhouse,
on the 1911 census he is living in Syston,
Navel records found on FindMyPast confirm his date of birth 19 Feb 1896.

That is sad that they do not want further chat on this. I am francis baron prentice grand son. He married in 1920. He disappeared just before ww2. I would like to find out more about him after he disappeared

Hi, thread resurrection!
Let me know if you are still on the forum. I believe I am also Robert Francis Baron's grandson from his marriage to Marion Prentice and we have always wanted to know about their life before they arrived in Tredworth. If it is the same person he lived in Gloucester until his death.

Hi
Wow I did not think I was going to hear anything.
I know some things about Frank Prentice up to the point he disappered in 1939. Not sure of the date but believe it was just before WW2 started. The family only had 1 sighting of him reported to them and that was in Gloucester.
If this is the same person., I believe I know why he would have changed his name to Robert. He spent his early life in syston and I remember going to the house once where we met his sister Philys. After leaving the navy he lived in Loughborough where Frank worked in the labour exchange. He was married in 1920 and had 2 daughters and a son.
I would be fascinated to find out what happened to him from when he left Loughborough.

Thanks for the reply. Various family members have tried to find out about my grand parents' life before 1939 with mixed results. My grandparents themselves were not forthcoming about all of their history. From the records available (birth certificates etc) it does look like Robert/Frank was keen not to be found after they moved to Gloucester.
During the second world war I believe that my grandfather worked at the Gloster Aircraft works at night, I believe as a fire warden but it could have been in the air ministry police. I will need to check that with my mother. My grandparents established a shop and ran that continuously, beyond grandfather's death. The family lived above the shop. They had five children who are in their 70s-80s now.
I don't seem able to send a private message but if you are able to PM me I would be interested in any information that you have as to why grandfather changed his name.

I don't seem able to send a private message but if you are able to PM

I thought you might be interested in some pictures. I have hopefully managed to attach a photo of grandfather taken around 1940 and then a photo taken circa 1970. I am happy to provide more details about grandfather post 1939 if you are interested and I would love to know more about him pre-1940 so please do private message me if you would like more detail.
