Hi
This might be a possible:

Family search here:

I'm afraid that we can't give any more info from the 1911 census, only what's available on the free indexes.

The James Fergusson I am looking for was born in the Sandon district Staffordshire,
in the 1871 census he is with his family in Wales at St Asaph, Abergele, Bettws Yn Rhos, Maesewig, Denbighshire.
Bit of a mouth full.
Details given are at age 14 he is listed under occupation as an "Engineer" what type or where is not defined but he is probably in an Apprenticeship of some sort.
By 1881 census his father has died and the rest of the family with the mother have moved back to Staffordshire.
he is now 24 and no where in sight.
the Newtown James does not now appear to fit as he is born in Scotland.
I can account for the rest of the family but not James.
Maybe some one out there knows my James.
thanks for all the replies sorry I left out some of the details.

Given there's one the right age in Newtown in 1911, but b Scotland so probably not yours, are you certain it isn't that one who dies in 1921?
-
there is a james fergusson ships carpenter at sea or abroad in the 1881,
I wonder who was the informant on the newtown death cert.

Mable it looks like James Fergusson 1911 census age 54 b Dumfries NB Dumfrieshire Scotland,
living in Newtown Llan llwchalarn Montgomeryshire see Gadget reply 1. is out the loop if this is the same person in Newtown listed in the 1921 death then he is also eliminated.
A big problem is that the English seem to use the one "S" spelling of the name and some transcriber's do also.
Other options are he has died between 1871 & 1881, he has migrated, or in the military or Merchant marine and may pop up later.
Thank you for your comment.
