Good afternoon
This is a large request, but I appreciate any help
I am looking for the marriages of the three people below
George Steel, born in 1778 Bewcastle
John Steel, born in 1769 Bewcastle
Jonathan Steel, born in 1773 in Bewcastle
All three of these men were the sons of Richard Steel, born 1746 in Bewcastle
John can be seen on the 1851 and 1861 census, a widower living in Denton, Bewcastle.
Jonathan I think can be found on the 1841 census, as shown below
Head (implied) Jonathan Steel 65 - 69
Wife (implied) Mary Steel 60 - 64
Daughter (implied) Elizabeth Steel 20 - 24
Son (implied) George Steel 10
Daughter (implied) Mary Steel 6
I think George and Mary are grandchildren considering the large difference in age between them and Elizabeth, Jonathan and Mary
Any help will be appreciated, if I can find marriages, I can find any children
my thanks

Hi
The easiest is Johnathon Steel and Mary Routledge 21.7.1810 at Lanercost
Children William and Richard bapt at Bowcastle 9.11.1811 born 10.10.1811 to Johnathon Steel and Mary Routledge,Mary 12.6.1814 Lanercost,John 4.12.1816 Lanercost,Elizabeth 25.3.1818 Lanercost,Jane 17.7.1821-21.10.1821 Bewcastle and William 28.5.1828 Bewcastle.
The younger children in 1841 George Steel age 10 bapt 11.6.1830 to Fergus and Ann Snaith Wetheral.Mary bapt 7.8.1835 Bewcastle is the daughter of Elizabeth Steel.
I would guess the Elizabeth age 20-24 is Johnathon and Mary's daughter bringing her daughter Mary with her.
I think George may have married Elizabeth Warwick at Kirklinton 13.7.1797
son Thomas bapt 24.7.1797,Fergus 21.4.1801 Wetheral ,Elizabeth 1.4.1804 Wetheral Mary 5.4.1807 -20.7.1809 Wetheral ,George 8.7.1810,,John 17.1.1813 ,Guy 13.10.1815,William 11.10.1818 Wetheral,Warwick 18.11.1821
John is more difficult - there is a marriage at Wetheral 30.5.1809 to a Margaret Foster but also a baptism at Lanercost 29.3.1788 Mary daughter of John Steel and Mary Carrick.
Of course they could both be right and John remarried after Mary's death.

What was Jonathan's age at the time of marriage in 1810 with Mary Routledge?
Marrying at 37, its quite a late marriage for the time
I think the George Steel marrying Elizabeth Warwick is not my ancestor, his father was Fergus Steel, not Richard
-
Another thread asking the same question on Jonathan Steel - please keep all the information on one family together and then we are not wasting our time duplicating what has already been found.

Thank you for pointing this out, Sandra, saves wasting anymore time. Please don't post duplicate questions Simon, as it is quite annoying spending time trying to help only to find it has already been answered elsewhere.

sorry I have short term memory issues and I easily forget things, I will be more careful in future. Thankfully my research is coming to an end, so posts will become more infrequent

I think the George Steel marrying Elizabeth Warwick is not my ancestor, his father was Fergus Steel, not Richard
Several ancestry trees connect George Steel (who married Elizabeth Warwick) with father Thomas Steel and Mother Elizabeth Graham. No one seems to connect him with a father Fergus Steel. ???
Although the couple had a son Fergus Steel in 1801.

I think its one of them, but either way, Jonathan's father was Richard and both of them were from Bewcastle, though Jonathan died in Brampton and Richard died in Stapleton

Hi,
But you made a statement that was in correct regarding the father of George Steel who married Elizabeth Warwick. So any one else who comes along and reads it, would be getting the wrong information. My post was made to make anyone aware that that might not be the case. ;)
I am aware that the father of Jonathan, George and John Steel was Richard, having done a very bit of research on the Steel family myself.

sorry my mistake. Thomas and Elizabeth are indeed the parents of George, when I said George was his father, I got his father and grandfather the wrong way round. Thomas is George's father, George is Thomas's father

Hi guys
An update: John Steel married Mary Irwin in 1795 in Walton, Cumberland. I don't think the record is online.
Still no sign of George Steel's marriage, I don't think he married Elizabeth Warwick
-
George Steel and Elizabeth Warwick married 13 July 1797 Kirklinton. Cumberland.

This could be the son of George Steel and Elizabeth Warwick - Warwick Steel born 18 Nov 1821 Wetherall Cumberland.

hi sandra
I have managed to find a number of children belonging to George and Elizabeth, but I still don't think he married her. Then again I cannot find an alternative
-
Why do you think he did not marry Elizabeth Warwick ???
Sandra
-
Because George's father was Richard Steel. The George Steel whom married Elizabeth Warwick has a different father
-
Didn't see a father listed for him to be honest. Looked at another George Steel born Beaumont 1782 - but his father seems to be George Steel (Mother Isabella Robinson)
No luck I'm afraid.

thanks Sandra
I don't think we are going to get far with George
There is a bond involving him and a woman named Mary Mitchenson and her bastard son in 1805 Walton Cumberland, no idea if he is the father
