I'm trying to sort out some of my very old notes and I think I have too many children for my 2xgreat grandfather John Annetts.
One of the suspect ones is Christopher Annetts who was born abt 1839 (according to age at marriage to Jane Ballard in Reading in 1858), and his father was John Annetts. The problem is I haven't been able to find Christopher on any census prior to his marriage. He certainly isn't with my John Annetts in Chilton Berks in '41 and '51, so please can someone help find which John Annetts he was with.
The second one is Jethro Annetts for whom I have a baptism of 6 Sep 1835 in Chilton, but am not now certain I have right parents.
A further complication is that my 2 x great grandfather had a brother Joseph who with his wife was transported for life (separately) before the 1841 census. They left three children behind according to transportation records - 2 girls and a boy. I have found the girls in 1841, one with grandparents and one with maternal aunt, but no trace of the boy.

Thanks very much, I had only been looking in Berkshire. As he's with another John Annetts who looks like he's his father (rather than another relative), I can cross him off my list. I'll look further afield in 1851, to see if I can get POB for John and Christopher, they might still be part of the wider family.

Thanks again, so he was born in Berkshire, still a possibility to be related but not as directly as I first thought.
Just found the image for the 1841 census in Surrey. It has a couple of pages of families living in huts, either brush makers or railroad labourers. I can understand people who were presumably building railroad living in rather temporary dwellings and moving on as each section was finished, but I wonder why such a large number of brush makers in one place.

Thank you again, I think that's sorted them out completely. The 1851 census certainly looks like the same family that was in Nutfield. So John is one of the Kintbury Annetts, I've got a tenuous link to them generations back. Just coincidence that Christopher married in Reading where some of my Chilton Annetts moved to.
And as for Jethro, that does confirm he was my John's brother's son. Both John and Joseph married women called Sarah which confuses things somewhat. Looks like died in 1840.
Thanks again for your help.

Now I have a more manageable number of children for my John, 3 from first marriage and 9 from the second.
One further puzzle, in 1841, he had living with him - Sarah his second wife, William youngest son from first marriage and 4 children from second marriage - 5 still to be born.
But in the same household are two children one is Rachel Wallis age 10. Sarah Annetts maiden name was Wallis, but this can't be her illegitimate daughter because if age was right she would have been married to John Annetts at the time Rachel was born. Sarah was the illeg daughter of Ann Wallis and I haven't found any brothers or sisters for her, so not a niece.
Can anyone find Rachel's baptism approx 1831 probably Chilton.
Thanks
