My great grandfather was in the Post Office Rifles based in London even though he was from Selkirkshire. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about the regiment. His marriage certificate is all I have as proof he was in this regiment. :)

WILLIAM MCKINNON born 9/6/1882 in Cossarshillfoot in Ettrick, Selkirkshire.
He survived the war as his children were born in 1918 and 1923.
I dont have a date of death tho.

The marriage certificate doesn't have any numbers but I did find a Pte William Mckinnon in the National Archives in the medal role. His number was 3283. Poss the same person?

Hullo Laurie81, my Grandfather was in the London Regiment but he was in the Post Office Rifles. Even though it is called the London Regiment, anyone from all over the country who worked in the Post Office would probably have been a member as they were already in the Post Office Rifles, an early form of Territorial Army. The London's were divided up and the Post Office Rifles were the 8th London. Go to my site www.christiemoore.co.uk and click on "Tom", there will be links to some videos I have done on YouTube which explain the subdivisions of the 58th (which contain the London Regiments)
