Title: Harrington family
Post by: scault on Tuesday 16 September 14 18:50 BST (UK)
Hi My Harrington's were originally living in southwark in the 1830s-50s then they were living in Marylebone. So I am researching my Grandfathers family from Marylebone in the 1900s -todate.

Jeremiah 1840
Timothy  1878
James John 1900
Edith 1925

Do you have the family on any censuses?

And have you checked Birth, Marriage and Death entries on www.freeBMD.org.uk?

For example, there is a Timothy Harrington, son of Jeremiah and M.A. Harrington, aged 6 on the 1881 census.
This puts his birth around 1875?

Do you have Timothy's Army record, he signed up 56 days short of his 40th birthday. It gives names and dates of his children.

Edith Harrington born 1925 Marylebone, this person might still be alive so we have to be a bit careful of information we put out publicly,
freebmd.org.uk
this site lists all birth, death and marriages, it might help you if you look at Edith birth, her mother's maiden name listed and to follow her family backwards,

1920 there is a marriage that took place in Marylebone
25/12/1920 Christ Church Marylebone
James John Harrington 21 of 41 Hereford St,  father Timothy Harrington
to
Elizabeth Brown 23 address as above,  father Thomas Brown
BUT Elizabeth signed as Catherine Elizabeth  Brown not as Elizabeth

witnesses George Holloway and Thomas Brown
This may be Edith's parents

I see you have already done some research on this family along Sarah  Plunkett and families

Can you let us know more about the information you have so that it isn't duplicated

Happy hunting

Hello all
Thank you for all your replies and yes I have all this information. I suppose I am hoping someone will be connected to this family. I do not know if Jeremiah Harrington Snr. 1800 living in Southwark was from Ireland. Sadly Edith Harrington was my lovely mum.

I thought there was an Irish connection, it is an unusual name so it should have been easy, if you have done some research surely a census would have told you his place of birth, do you think Jeremiah knew where he was born ?

Sadly Jeremiah Harrington snr died 1840 just before the 1841 census  :-[ so I have no idea and my tree for the Harringtons stop there as I have never found a marriage for him and Elizabeth Cronin.

Oh dear, just missed him, I have several " just missed" prior to the 1911, that would have been great if I had found out exactly how many children alive or dead my great grand mother had, she too died a few months before the 1911,   isn't it annoying?

Hope you have some success with your Jeremiah

regards
