On what is going to be a historical day one way or the other, conversation between my wife and I came around to 'Family History'. Her Grandfather was George Wood Greig and he was married to Lilian, but we do not know her surname. They had also we believe ten (10) children, George (Dod), William (Bill), Colin, Charlie, Alfie, Lilian, Jean, Phylis, Hazel and Mary. There are certainly a lot of Greigs, but wondered if anyone could add meat to the bone as they say with further information of this branch of the Greig's.
Thank You
Lorna (Nee Greig)

Hi Lorna what year are we talking about here and where was he born ? I had a quick look and found a George Wood Greig born Banffshire 1895 and married to a Lillie Niven McRae ...Think the best thing you could do would be to look for the marriage for George Wood Greig on Scotlands People if you have not used this site it will cost £7.00 for 30 credits and will use 6 for a search and view :)

Gosh Rosie,
That looks promising already as there could not be many George 'Wood' Greigs married to a Lilian. I'm enthused already. Thank you so much.

A tree has George's parent's as William Greig b 1853 Boyndie and Eliza Ann Cruickshank b 1858 Boyndie .....One birth match for George Wood Greig born 1895 Banff comes up on Scotlands People which would confirm his parent's ..
There is a 1901 census in Wester Whyntie Boyndie
William Greig age 48 occupation cattleman on farm
Elize Greig age 43
William Greig b 1892
James Greig b 1894
George Greig b1896
Charles Greig b 1897
Jane Greig b 1899
Alexander Greig b 1901

I really am so surprised that so much has been discovered in just one morning, incredible to say the least. The census was most interesting as it of course named other siblings. I obviously do not know how many children James & Ann had, but it seems the Greigs loved children, although they get fewer and fewer I hasten to add. Thank you so much for the information that you have gleaned already, my 'Family Tree' is looking quite respectable already with thanks to you.
Thanks

Trish has given you his birth think this is him in the 1891 census William Greig age 35 born abt 1856 Boyndie Banffshire ...working as a farm servant at Tipperty Alvah Banffshire
1891 Census address Seafield Street Boyndie Banffshire
Eliza Greig ( Eliza Cruickshank ) Head age 33 born abt 1858 farm servants wife
Eliza Winton ( daughter ) born 1880 Boyndie
Jessie Cruickshank ( mother ) born 1820 Marnoch farm servants widow
Looks as if she had a daughter before she was married to William
-
Just seen marriage for William Greig farm servant aged 30yrs father James Greig farm servant mother Ann Howat 29th December 1883 Boyndie to Elizabeth Cruickshank age 24 ...domestic servant father James Cruickshank ( deceased ) mother Jessie Ingram
I would assume there would have been more children born and not survived as there is quite a gap from their marriage in 1883 till the birth of their son William in 1892 ?
-
Her daughter Eliza Winton born 1880 Whitchills Banffshire is working as a tablemaid domestic to a family in Berwickshire ....Think that should be Whitehills as that is Eliza Cruickshank's address on her marriage

I simply marvel at what may be found out by you clever people. Looked up the Free Church in Banff and that was interesting as well so have made a note of that. They obviously married in front of the congregation on a piece of land opposite the castle. Brilliant stuff. I am very much appreciated to you for all the information.
Regards
Lorna
