Title: Help with place location.
Post by: forthefamily on Monday 22 September 14 21:04 BST (UK)
Has anyone heard of a place called Arronac?

I have found a burial record for a Jane Kinvig born abt 1788 dated 20 Feb 1859 in Arbory. It states that her residence was Arronac.

I have found her in the census in 1841 and 1851 living at Gary Mooar, Treen of Ronague. I haven't located her after 1851 so I'm thinking that she passed away before the 1861 census.

I was wondering if anyone knows what connection if any these two places...Arronac and Gary Mooar.... have to each other.

This record seems like such a close match that I think it might be her.

The Description and Boundary of the Enumeration District doesn't help much?!

North District - from west end of Arystyne to east end down to John Hall Cousins Richard Costain's William Gawne's William Duggan's John Cornish's Thomas Clucas's and to Balla Glonney and to Ronag (sic) and Garey Moar thence to Cringhill and the late Robert Kennak's house.
2 miles from east to west, and 1 1/2 miles from north to south

The final entry for the census for Arbory shows an entry for Ronague School?

Thanks to both of you for your help:)

I've been Googling around and I think Arronac might be an older name for Ronague but I can't be really sure. I'll keep looking.

Further:- It is reportedly mentioned in Woods Atlas. There are a few "Kinvigs" mentioned in the names list.
