Can anyone help me I am doing family tree for a family memeber (uncle by marriage) and I am at a died end. This is what information i have
Thomas Woodburn b-1776 Liverpool, Died- not sure but in 1851 in workhouse in Ulverston, Liverpool
He married Elizabeth Luke (Look) in 1806 Liverpool
They had 2 sons Thomas 1809 (married Frances Clark in 1833) and William 1808-1880 but there is a Jane but 100% sure.
Can anyone find out who this father and mother is and any more information
-
The 1851 shows his birthplace as Ulverston - not Liverpool
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulverston
-
well i have found him born in Liverpool and in Uvlerston
-
The 1841 census does not show specific birthplaces - just whether somebody was born in the county in which they were living
Ulverston came under Lancashire at that time so if he was living in Liverpool and shown with a Y against the entry - that does not mean he was born there. Just that he was born in Lancashire
The 1851 is the first census to show actual birthplaces and it shows Ulverston
-
i think he died in 2851 in a workhouse in Ulverston can you back this up? as i found him as an inmate in 1851 and he died the same year
-
I have his kids born Thomas 1809, William 1808 in liverpool and died at 1880 Ulverston Liverpool
and i found a Jane which I cant find a birth to
-
The 1851 shows him in the WH in Ulverstone
Members of the public do not have access to the info on death certs so you would have to buy a copy of the cert to confirm he died in the WH
However - the 1851 death was registered in Preston. If that was your Thomas and he died in Ulverstone - his death would have been registered in Ulverstone. There are a number of possibilities in that RD between 1854-1861 and none have ages shown against the entries on freebmd
-
ok thanks
-
There is a burial in St Mary's Ulverston on 23.12.1851 for a Thomas Woodburn aged 76 but no death on freebmd in the December qtr
There is also a burial at Holy Trinity Ulverston on 1.12.1857 for a Thomas Woodburn aged 79

the good news is that there are NO burials for any of those children up to 1842 ...so looks like they all survived ..... cholera outbreak in Liverpool in late 1820`s and early 1830`s , so they must all have been strong children - one of my good friends here in Liverpool is a Woodburn .....the only Woodburn I have ever heard of ( that`s why I read all the posts )......makes me wonder if he is a descendant of Thomas and Elizabeth ...
......................................................................
I have also just read Shauns post - Renshaw Street was and still is upmarket - so I presume Thomas was quite well off money wise ...
Shaun - does it give his age when he dies in 1846 ??
this is a possible for Thomas Woodburn baptism - there is no 1776 baptism - but one in 1779 ...if he happens to be 66 or 67 when he dies in 1846 - this might be his baptism
Baptism: 10 Oct 1779 St Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Thomas Woodburne - Son of John Woodburne
Born: 21 Sep 1779
Abode: Atherton Street
Occupation: Surgeon
-
just re read Shauns post - Thomas died aged 72 in 1846
so Thomas b 1773 / 1774 ....
-
thanks for ur help
-
can anyone find his parents??? i have been told that there is a rumour saying they r from ireland
-
I have just found this site and seem a little late but I have a Thomas Woodburn and Elizabeth Luke in my ancestry. Thomas seems to have been born around 1776 in Liverpool and died in 1846 NOT in a workhouse. Elizabeth Luke married him in Liverpool and they had some 7 children, 1 of whom Samuel was my ancestor
Hope this does not confuse

I have just found this site, so here goes.
I am descended from Thomas/Elizabeth son Samuel. He is my greatx2 grandfather. He married Hannah Samuel and had many children. I am confused about the religion of these children but although there may be some baptismal records, most were brought up in the Jewish faith. For your info., Some of Samuels grand children reverted to the surname of Woodburn because of anti German sentiment in WW1.
Am interested in any antecedents of Thomas & Elizabeth

I used to live in Liverpool, there is a long history of the Jewish faith and community in Liverpool, members of that Faith have played a prominent part as Councillors and Lord Mayors of the City of Liverpool over the years. So I suggest that you try to find Jewish archives.

if anyone of you are still on this site and want information i have a family tree on ancestry with the family tree I am doing

My great granddad was Thomas Woodburn Thompson and his grandmother was Jane Woodburn. Her father was James Woodburn and he married Anna Pennington in 1771. Would it help if I spoke to you on the phone, if so I can post my phone number? Ken Thompson
