Looking for any info on Samuel and Elizabeth Gibson and family c1870-1900.
Samuel was born in Scotland c1853. He married Elizabeth (likely nee Ballentyne Hill, but possibly McDonald) in Carlisle in 1877.
They then appear on the 1881 census living in Cross Canonby with Maryport with their two daughters Mary J and Lillian JH, and in the 1891 census Elizabeth and the girls plus three sons, John (John is the direct line I am researching), Henry and David are 'visiting' Thomas Barnfather in Caldewgate, St James - no sign of Samuel but it is possible Samuel was regularly working away from home as a hat salesman. I have traced Samuel and Elizabeth and their sons to Dublin, Ireland where they appear on the 1901 census but no sign of the girls. By the 1911 Dublin census, Elizabeth has died as Samuel is noted as a widower and the three sons are all married and also living in Dublin.
I'd love to find out more about Samuel and Elizabeth and also I haven't been able to trace what happened to Lillian or Mary so any help welcome
thanks

The Marriage Cert for Samuel is a must to buy.
1871 Census has a Elizth HILL born c 1858 Carlisle, living with Parents HENRY/JANE in Botchergate.
Also in the Household is a William Barnfather age 3, Nephew to Henry/Jane.
1861 she is down as Betsy Hill age 3.
1851 in Botchergate;
Henry Hill 37
Jane Hill 32
Alexander Hill 10
Henry Hill 8
Margaret Hill 6
Martha Hill 2
1861 Henry is born Northumberland and 1851 Cumberland
1861 there is a Son BENJAMIN age 20 who is not on the 1851.
On other Census and his Christening (F/S.Org) he is born c 1838/9
1851 he appears to be down as the Son of BENJAMIN.MARGARET Hill age 13.
I think it is Grandson. And these may be Henry Parents.
Looks like Eliza was named after her Married Aunt;
1881 Census
Henry Hill, 67, Head, Widower, Moulder (Iron), born North Shields, Durham, England
Alexander Hill, 39, Son, Widower, Brake Inspector (Ry), born Gateshead, Northumberland
Martha B. Hill, 29, Daug, Unm, Housekeeper, born Gateshead, Northumberland
Elizabeth BALLENTINE, 62, Sister in Law, Widow, born Carlisle

Amongst their many children are

This may also be a clue to who he married :-\

As Samuel is elusive you need the M/C.
