Hi,
Was wondering if you could help me find a possible death of an ancestor
Walter Allison was born April 9th 1856 in Glasgow in Scotland
His parents were John Allison and Ann/Annie McCormack
he is found in the 61 and 71 scottish census but not the 81 census but i have found someone with the same details as him in the 91 and 1901 census in England registered in Christchurch, Chester, St Oswald. He is married to Jane who is from Ireland and they would have been married between 1880-85 but i dont know where. what makes me think its also him is because of his childrens names, john, james, annie, walter and mary elizabeth. John could be after his dad, annie after his mum, walter after him self and james and mary elizabeth could be from the wifes side. he is gone by 1911 so died after 1901. Mary Elizabeth seems to be the last child born to survive or in all the last child they had.
Was wondering if anyone could help me with it to try find out if he is the same man
Thanks
Gary

Have you discounted this death? Cheshire BMD lists is as within the district of Chester Cathedral
Sept Qtr 1901 Walter Allison Age 45 Chester 8a 256
Kay
Edit - the 1891 and 1901 census both list him as born in Scotland and in 1891 specifically Glasgow

Hi
A possibility for the 1881 census RG11 Piece 4000 Folio 74 Page 5 for Walter Allison in Manchester, England born Bridgeton, Scotland. Age and occupation match the 1891 census.
There is no obvious marriage but the birth certificate for one of his children would give his wifes maiden name which may help.

Hiya Andy - is he an Iron Moulder aged 26 ,single in 1881 at 311 Oldham Road ...if so we know he married 1881 onwards ..
ADDED....OK it is the same man ...just checked...
Bridgeton is in East Glasgow
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridgeton,_Glasgow
do we know the year of birth for his firstborn so we can narrow down a marriage ..
-
Thats him!!! The whole family stayed in Bridgeton back then :D
So hes in Manchester in 1881 then.
His first born would be around 1885 i think and it says they were all born in chester

Looks like they were all registered Chester Cathedral
Mary Elizabeth 1894 Chester Cathedral CAT / 75 / 11
Walter 1891 Chester Cath CAT / 70 /
Annie 1889 Chester Cath CAT / 66 / 50
John 1885 Chester Cath CAT / 59/ 98
THERE IS ALSO
Jane 1887 Chester Cath CAT / 63 / 14 ...might be another child ??
ADDED Jane Allison bap 31st July 1887 Chester - parents Walter and Jane
Isabella Allison bap 24th March 1897 Chester
ALL the children are baptised Christ Church ,Chester - reg Chester Cathedral -so they had 6 children without James ??...can`t find a James - if James is definitely a child of Walter and Jane then that makes 7
so Walter Allison to Jane between 31st March 1881 and 1885 ....freebmd only has one
dec qtr 1881 Walter Allison to Betsy Button or Jane Fowler Glanford Brigg , Lincs 7a 1335
we need to see if Walter and Jane married - otherwise it might be a Scottish or Irish marriage ?

I believe it is him :) so many similarities relating to his children and parents and age etc. So walter moved to England and had a family, possibly got married here.

Hello! This is an old thread but I am posting here to say thank you for the work you have done so far. I am actually Walter Allison's great great granddaughter--Mary Elizabeth, his daughter, was my great grandmother. I am searching for information on Walter's wife, my great great grandmother, Jane Allison. Looking for her maiden name to be specific. Records show she was born in Ireland, but this is all I can find so far.
-
Also -- I see you are an ancestor of Walter Allison's as well! Your profile picture Alexander Allison... Who was he in relation to Walter? I can't blow up the picture to see the details, but if you have a better quality image of that picture, I would sure love to see it. Thank you! :)

Thanks, Gary! This is great information! If you have a high res pic of Alexander (your avatar pic) you could PM me, I would love to see it. Tried to blow this one up but its quite blurry. I am in the US, Mary Elizabeth married John Price from Wales and they moved to the US (Michigan) in 1921.

Thank you! When I go to the link www.gro.gov.uk/ I do not see any place to register or search online. Could it be because I am in the US? If you would be able to list the other children along with Mary Elizabeth who have the same mother that would be amazing and confirm that this is the correct Jane Torrence (Allison).
