I hope I am in the right place to ask this. Can anyone look up the baptismal entry for John Kavanagh born 1870 in Ferry Hill, parents John and Catherine. I am desperate to know the mother's maiden name so I can find John's brother Thomas Kavanagh who I have been looking for for decades now.
I don't know what Catholic churches there was in Ferry Hill at that time or the quarter John was born in but if I can find his mother's maiden name I think I can solve some puzzles.
Any help would be so appreciated and if this is posted in the wrong place please advise me.
Many thanks in advance for any help.

There's a birth registration in the June quarter 1870 for John Cavnah, but this was the Sunderland District vol 10a page 604.
Details are from FreeBMD but the link to the Sunderland Registration District and Sub-Districts did not work. I don't think Ferryhill comes under Sunderland but it seems to be the only registration that comes close, if he was registered at all.

Thank you all so much for the replies, they are all appreciated.
Yes Suz that is the family. I am trying to find a birth and death cert for the Thomas, brother of John but have never ever found anything apart from his marriage certificate. I have posted before looking for Thomas Kavanagh but thought it might help to try to follow John because, as you say, Thomas is listed as being born in Wrexham and Spennymoor but wasn't, I have come to a dead end there too. However, John never varies in his birth place of Ferry Hill so if I can get to know his mother's maiden name from his baptismal records I might have more chance of finding Thomas. Why there is no death cert to be found is a mystery but after more than ten years I am grabbing at any thing I can to try to find him. Many thanks for all the help.

If he was born in Ferryhill then his birth would be registered in Stockton district.
There wasn't a RC church at Ferryhill in 1870, the ones in the area I think would be Coxhoe/Cornforth and Sedgefield.
Cheers

Thank you Jay, I didn't know that. so should I be asking for a Stockton look up? Also can you advise where to look for a Spennymoor lookup?
Very many thanks Jay, that was helpful.

I have a transcript of RC churches - Trimdon, West Cornforth and Sedgefield 1839-1901. No likely Cavenaugh/Kavenaugh or derivatives baptisms with the names and dates you have given. The only burial is a Catherine Cavenagh, age 73, buried 30 Sep 1899, died Cornforth. I don't know if she fits.

Thank you so much Janis for your help, it is so appreciated. The information was taken from the 1871 and the 1881 census where it states John Kavanagh was born 1870 at Ferry Hill. I do know they were Catholics and lived at Ratten Row in 1881.
If that information on the census records is incorrect I am lost and do not know where to go now.
I don't know if the Catherine you mention is the mother of John so cannot say if she is the right Catherine. My Catherine was mother of John and Thomas and wife of John born around 1831 in Ireland but I do not know where in Ireland.

not sure how far you have got for this but was John's mothers maiden name Malone?
-
Sorry Puddin, I have no idea as yet. It is the information I am wanting to find out. His father was a Labourer and named John too, that is all I know.
Thanks for posting.
