can any one tell me why in 1841 census john harrison born 1814 where it says place born it has a N as in not born in england is that correct ? living in newcastle and then in 1851 living gateshead / 1861 living newcastle / 1881 living newcastle , apart from the 1841 census all say born gateshead , i cannot find him in 1871 census and i cannot find his parents or sibblings can anyone tell me why it didnt have Y in the 1841 census

N means not born in County. As he was living in Northumberland in 1841 that would mean that he wasn't born in Northumberland.

thanks but wasnt gateshead in 1841 in the county of northumberland , as im not up on the county,s if not then what county would gateshead come under

Gateshead was in County Durham.
