Looking for any information on two Banardo girls who sailed on the Polynesian in 1885 to Quebec, Canada.
Ruth and Florence Kingham, father was David Kingham 1847-1890 from Hitchin, Herts. Mother was Caroline Cannon 1866-1931.
Ruth was born in 1873 so she was 13 when she left England and Florence was aged 6.
I have the passenger list for the Polynesian, but would like to know more of the Canada side.
My mother was a Barnes, so the Kingham, Barnes and Johnson family are closely related, in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.
Any info appreciated.

Caroline b 1866 couldn't have been the birth mother of either girl :) was she a stepmother maybe?

Thank you for all the replies. There was another marriage to David Kingham. As pointed out it was Jane Page 1845-1880. Caroline Cannon also married twice to a George Hawkins. They had a son also George born 1893.
I've just rechecked this and Jane Page was the mother of Ruth and Florence. As mentioned sorry about the wrong info.

Unfortunately, it looks like Florence died young. There is a death notice in the Toronto Star newspaper July 29, 1933, page 21. Her first name is never used :P :P
It says that Mrs W. C. Milson (same spelling as in the 1911 census) died at the Toronto General Hospital, following surgery. Her address was 350 Beresford Avenue. She was a "lifelong resident of Toronto", an active member of St. Paul's Anglican Church, Runnymeade. She was worthy mistress of St. Ann lodge of the L.O.B.A. , no. 416. She was also a member of the Unity Chapter, Eastern Star, no 20. She is survived by her husband William C. Milson, and 4 sons William John, Harley Alvin, Delbert Sidney and Kenneth Gordon. She has one sister, Mrs Newman. Everyone lives in Toronto...

so the girls weren't that far apart in age then? ( as stated on arrival in Canada )
Oh, I see FreeBMD she was born 1872...baptised late.... But how can she be registered in June Quarter if born July?
1881 shows only a 6 years between them...What happened to George born in between???

Thank you J.J. I have seen the photograph and list of names only last week, That's how I found they had gone to Canada. Fascinating website.
I've been puzzling over some of the dates and ages especially for Ruth but I find they vary a little anyway.
On the 1881 census Ruth is down as being born in Codicote, another says Knebworth. George is down as Knebworth in the parish of Codicote. They are only 3 miles apart.
George is still a mystery where he is.
Thank you for all the replies, its certainly moved on a lot further.

Hi,
William Calvin Milson (husband of Florence) died in Toronto on Sept 25, 1936.
There is a very short paragraph in the Toronto Star. It says he was leaving his work on Hanna Avenue, and he collapsed and died from a heart attack. He was 50 years old and his address had been 350 Beresford Road. Coroner ruled death was from natural causes.
There is a very short death notice in the Globe and Mail too. It says he was 54 years old and was the beloved husband of the late Florence. Father of William, Harley, Delbert and Kenneth. Burial at St. John's Norway cemetery.
The same notice from the Globe is also in the Markdale Standard. You can see it here on page 1... near the bottom on the right of the page. http://news.ourontario.ca/ghpl/1123467/data?n=4 Just click on the image of the paper on the right of this link, the select Page 1... and you should be able to find it.

Kenneth Gordon Milson died at his home on Dec 17, 1990 - husband of L, and dear brother of Harley. The other brothers aren't mentioned. Kenneth leaves many nieces and nephews. He is buried in Pine Hills Cemetery (this is in Scarborough, Ontario)

Delbert Milson died at the Mississauga General Hospital on April 10, 1971. Husband of C (D) Leeson. Dear father of W, H and D. Lots of grandchildren listed. (I won't post full names, in case people are still living. Will PM instead.) Brother of Harley and Kenneth Milson. Doesn't say where he is buried.

Hi,
I also found a death for a William Milson on Feb 12 1994. There is no middle initial and no mention of brothers. Given that Kenneth's obit of 1990 only mentions Harley, I wonder if this William could be a next generation? William died in Toronto and the funeral service was in Richmond Hill (just north of Toronto). Family members are mentioned. He might fit.... ???

It appears Ruth's first husband didn't die until 1928. his birth shows as 1852 on first marriage (fibbed to sound a bit younger at the marriage to young Ruth I imagine) No divorce shows for them thus the "spinster" stated in second marriage. The couple didn't last too long, though, since she's already calling herself Kingham in 1901 https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JKWB-QJT
1911 with (step sons ?) George & Jonnie ( hit the "links to see there were several other stepchildren as well... http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census11/SplitView.jsp?id=51024
awe, Jane's death that year... https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JD2H-R3Y

Hi
Such an old thread but only just found it. Fascinating information, think George Kingham is my great grandfather and believe he was the brother of Ruth and Florence. Looks like he was living with relatives when the sisters were sent to Canada. Is there any information about what had happened to their parents?.
Thanks
Christine Kingham Poore

Hi Christine, I passed on all the info I had to the person researching the Kingham side of the family.
But will see what I can find out.
Robert.
