Title: Looking for Lowe family c 1811 Warwickshire
Post by: pamnow on Sunday 26 October 14 07:51 GMT (UK)
My GG grandfather, THOMAS LOWE was born 1811 in Warwickshire, it is said to have been within sight of the castle. He learned blacksmithing from his father.
By the mid 1830s he was in Tasmania, Australia where he married a lady (name unknown) born there who bore him 3 children before she died. 1st a girl Elizabeth or Lizzie (later married a Mr Griggs); 2nd a boy (my G grandfather) Charles Henry (he married in NZ); 3rd a girl name unknown (later married a Mr Armstrong)
Thomas married a second time to Eliza Davis and had 2 more children a boy and a girl.
Around 1862 or 1863 they moved to Auckland, New Zealand, leaving behind the 2 oldest girls - probably both married by then.
Can anyone help with further information.

Jim1 - thank you. I had one baptised August 1810 at St Phillips which I thought might be in line of sight of the castle. Do you agree that would be the most likely?
I am also aware that registration of births was only introduced in 1837 so know that prior to that the birth may not have been registered.
Spendlove - I haven't found any information regarding transportation (that's not to say he wasn't) just a lack of information

Warwick & B'ham are about 20 mls. apart & although Warwick castle is big you can't see it from B'ham.
Also Warwick isn't the only castle in Warwickshire there's one at Kenilworth.

Ok - that all helps. It's like a jigsaw with half the pieces missing!

Lowe is quite a common name & you really need to offer more information if we're to find him.

Unfortunately that is all I have so far, but I will keep digging into his life in Tasmania and New Zealand and maybe we will find out more.
