Title: Alice Tunney
Post by: bugwit on Wednesday 29 October 14 13:55 GMT (UK)
Ive not been on here for a couple of years. Had to give things a miss for a while. I am still trying to find out what happened to my mums sister.
Her maiden name was Alice Tunney born Liverpool 1920. Post war she worked in the Scarisbrick Hotel Southport. I understand she went to live with a disabled man in the area about 1950's or 1960's. Can't find any marriage or death although its an outside chance she is still alive. I have had an email published in the Southport Visitor with very little response and I have subscription to Ancestry. Apologies if this sounds familiar but I am revisiting this brick wall from a couple of years ago.

If she may still be alive, then her name shouldnt be posted here on Rootschat.

Fair enough but she would be 94 by now so unlikely. For future reference what would be the cut off age for a ''living'' person? I don't want to be infringeing any rules.

The England & Wales death index is available online upto 2007 and the marriage index upto 2006, and then on microfiche at 7 locations around the country.

If she doesn't appear on them, check the edited electoral registers online with companies such as 192.com or FindMyPast. If she appears there, assume she is still alive or recently deceased.

If she is at an address one year but not the next, check to see if she has died. If she hasn't she may be living in a nursing home in the area.

With the age at death increasing, you should check deaths upto age 105.

There's a database online which has a list of super-centenarians

Just to add, the death index after 1969 includes the date of birth.

If you get a copy of her birth cert, you'll have her actual dateof birth.

You can search more accurately for a death or death under a different surname if you have this info.

If you have an Ancestry sub, you can search the death index by first name only and date of birth to see if she has died and been registered as something else.

A Tunney
Merseyside
1st result = the name you have posted on the electoral roll...might not be your lady - but then again it might - so she may still be alive ...would be great if she was ...

Bit of an odd entry, that lady stopped being on the edited electoral register in 2002 but may have died way back in 1995.

The other resident is still there but I think his birth is 1934.

I don't think the person mentioned in electoral roll info is your missing Alice as there is a marriage in Liverpool 1957 that could apply :-\

I have trawled through the marriages and couldn't see one in Liverpool. I have either missed it or ruled it out in my head. I will look again to see if it's possibly her.
Thanks for your help.

Dave

I think the marriage sgf28 refers to is for someone becoming Alice Tunney by marrying Mr Tunney.
Title: Missing aunty
Post by: bugwit on Tuesday 11 September 18 20:16 BST (UK)
Good evening.
Im looking for some advice.
A few years ago I was on here looking for an aunty I assumed must have passed away. She was born in 1920 in Liverpool so in fact its possible she is still alive.
She was last heard of in Southport about 1955 attached/married to a man whose name I have only just identified.
Problem is neither her nor him seem to be on marriages or deaths. Possible they didn't get married and haven't died.
Are there any directories similar to the Kellys/Gores for Liverpool that cover the Southport area.
Where in Southport could I see the electoral rolls assuming there are none on line?

If they died after 2007 their death registrations would not necessarily be available online although some are

You could look on this website for probate from 2008 to date in case either left a will or Letters of Administration were granted

https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills

Electoral rolls from 2002 are available online on a number of sites - use Google to search

I think Southport electoral rolls and directories are held at at the Local History archive at Crosby Library.

Crosby library does indeed hold Southport's electoral rolls however they are not indexed so a road name is required. There are also some 1950/60s directories both in Crosby and Southport libraries. If you pm the names to me I will have a look at both libraries however I'm not at Crosby until a week on Friday. Southport within the next few days.

Thanks all for your responses.
My aunt's name is Alice Tunney.  She may have married or taken the name of her partner. Bill / William Povey.
I am well aware that they may have split up or left the area or both post 1955 but any information would be appreciated.

David Lee

Hi

Do you have her birthdate?

There is the death of an Alice Povey in  Sefton North, 1996*. Birthdate given as 1st Oct 1920.

Thanks Gadget and Carole
I have sent for her birth certificate to check date.
Don't know why I didn't see the registration before.
Yes Carole you are right but I am revisiting this particular brick wall in the light of the Povey connection that I have only been made aware of last week.

I shall be at Southport library later today and Crosby library and will have a look in the directories for Alice Tunney/Povey and William Povey.

As I explained in my earlier post the Electoral Rolls are done by road name and are not indexed.

Thanks very much Ray. I don't expect you will have any luck given that I don't have a street or road. Pleas don't spend too much time on it. I will have to get up there myself.
I'm going to try the Southport Visitor again to see if any locals remember either of them.

povey
southport
search
quite a few but the electoral role on there only goes back to 2011 - I can see a couple of possible children in the age bracket 62-69 on that list - have a look and see if you recognise any family Christian names
good luck
