My grandparents, Arthur George Brooks (born 1887 in Wimbledon, England) and Daisy Grace Walter (born in City of London, UK) emigrated to Canada (not sure when, but probably about 1912) and married in Brantford, Ontario on 27 September 1913. He worked for Massey-Harris in the town. My mother was born in Brantford in 1915, but Daisy and my mother returned to the UK in 1919 after Arthur died in Brantford on 10 August 1918. The newspaper report of the death said that Arthur had a brother Alfred Brooks living in Hamilton, Ontario.
I would dearly love to find out more about their arrival in Canada (Did Alfred go with them or did they meet up afterwards?) and their brief life in Canada. Can anyone suggest a way of finding out when they travelled; which ship they went on and the route it would have taken? I realise it is a tall order, but I haven't been able to find out anything other than the dates yet.

Arthur and Daisy married in Grace Church, Brantford. The witnesses were Willoughby J Wood and Alfred H Brooks (Arthur's brother).
They were living at 115 Eagle Avenue, Brantford when my mother was born in 1915 and at 172 Eagle Avenue in 1918 when Arthur died (at the Sanatorium). He was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery, Brantford on 13 August 1918.
Any help/advice you can give about their life and/or passage to Canada would be very much appreciated.

My family went to Grace Church in Brantford and my grandparents are buried in Mount Hope.
If you would like I can take a picture of his grave for you. I will be in Brantford in the next couple of weeks. I can also get a picture of Grace Church as well.
I seen their marriage was in the Brantford paper as well, if you don't have a copy of that, I can get it for you as well.
I will check out some other information for you as well.

Just an interesting side note, I checked out Willoughby Wood on the WWI soldiers database and seems him and my great-grandfather signed up on the same day and both sailed from Valcartier, Quebec.

This is very good of you. I would love to have pictures of granddad's grave if you can find it and one of the church too if you don't mind. Do let me know the cost of printing and postage - or do you have one of these clever digital cameras that can send it over the internet?
I have already got the notice of their wedding (and indeed the funeral) from the local paper. I was pleasantly surprised to find it was indexed and available on the internet.
What a coincidence that your family used the same church and cemetery. And that Willoughby Wood signed up and sailed with your great grandfather, although I suppose a lot of men did that. I have no idea what his connection was with my family unfortunately.

Do you think your mother was baptized? If she was baptized at Grace Church then you could find out if she had sponsors. I know the lady who holds the records for the church and will contact her to have a look for you.
Are there any other names mentioned in the marriage notice or the funeral?
I am going to Brantford next Friday, the 22nd of July.

I'm afraid I don't know if my mother was baptised, although if she was I guess it would probably have been in Grace Church as her parents married there. There are no names in the marriage notice other than Ven Archdeacon G C Mackenzie being the officiating clergyman.
The funeral notice says the service was conducted by the Rev David Alexander and there was "a large number of people" at the funeral. Six of his "benchmates" from Massey-Harris Co. acted as pallbearers: R Fletcher, J Edwards, J Goodread, W Symes, L Pyle and J Sayles. Arthur's father and sister (Miss Hilda) are referred to as still living in Wimbledon, England and a brother, Mr A Brooks residing in Hamilton, Ontario. There was a wreath from the packing and shipping department of Massey-Harris and sprays of flowers from Mr & Mrs Fletcher, Mr & Mrs Wood, Mr & Mrs Langmuier, Mrs Churchward, Mr & Mrs Slater, Mr & Mrs Wiltshire, Mr & Mrs Small, Mr & Mrs J A Edwards, Mr & Mrs Rice and Mrs Edwards.
None of these names (other than the father, brother and sister of course) mean anything to me. I guess they are neighbours and work mates.
