Hi,
The following is from the 1851 census -
1851 : Higher Odcombe, Somerset
Henry Bird head M 39 Cord Winder Odcombe
Ann wife 49 Glover Kingstone
George Hutchings apprentice 19 Cord Winder Kingstone
(I believe Cord Winder should read Cordwainer)
George was my gggrandfather.
I would like to know more about this family as I believe there may have been a family connection. My grandmother's name was Winifred Bird, who married a William Hutchings).
Anything anyone can find would be appreciated.

This is same family in 1841 although seem to be recorded as Burt

Thanks for that.
Any chance you could find them in later censuses. I am particularly keen to see if there is a Mary Bird anywhere, as I have found a baptism for my grandmother (Winifred Bird) which gives her mother's name as Mary. No father.

Leaping back to 1851, without any information in between, is a heck of a jump?!

Yes, I have the marriage entry for 1922.
The baptism I have for Winifred is for 29/01/1896 at Holy trinity, Frome.
I know that in 1901 census both Wm. and Winifred were in the household of Elizabeth Brown in Frome. Both are listed as 'visitor', but I have discovered that Eliz. Brown was Wm's grandmother.
I have traced the Hutchings family, but am stuck with the Birds.
I would appreciate any suggestions.

You can also find Winnie (as she is known!) in the house of Elizabeth Brown on the 1911 census. ;D
I suspect that Mary Bird was not from Frome?
I have looked at all the Bird's connected with Frome, on the 1891 census, and cannot see a Mary of the right age?
(Only 2 Mary's aged 50 or so!!)

1901 that Mary is a servant to the Vokes family in Bath, giving her lpace of birth as Egford, Frome

The reason I am interested is that family tradition says that William and Winifred were cousins.
However, there doesn't seem to be the evidence to support that.

The 1841, 1851 and 1861 all have this family as Burt not Bird. There is also a burial for Ann Burt of the right age in Odcombe c1855, I cannot see a death/burial for an Ann Bird in the area. I don't think this can be the link you are seeking
