Hi

Do you at least have the names of the parents of this Mary Doherty as the name would be common in Derry, it would help to narrow the search, also are you talking about county or city?

Regards

Hi There,

Where did you get her date of birth from? Do you have her marriage certificate or know who she married? (it should give her fathers name)

Also as joe said do you have any place names or anything to narrow it down? There are a lot of Doherty's in Derry at the time.

Cheers,
Holly

Just going off the names, there is a Mary Rose O'Doherty born 13th March 1918. Who has siblings Philomena born - 9th April 1922 and Andrew Kevan born 9th May 1919. Londonderry Urban. Parents Patrick, a barber & Jane Kelly.

Just a possible maybe? Until we get more information?

The parents were married at CATHEDRAL OF ST. EUGENE 19th of November 1917. I can give the full info if you think it may be them.

Cheers,
Holly

thanks all for your replies,
    here is everthing we have
Mary Doherty b. approx.1917/18 presumed Derry.
Died 25 April 1911 as Mary Miller.
Married to Robert Miller - not known where or when.Robert b.1920 d.20 Dec. 1950 in Derry.
Robert and Mary were living at 103 Dungiven Road when daughter Mary Nora was born 28 Dec.
    1943.
In Nov.1999 the Millers were victims of loyalist petrol attack on their home at 7 Bann Drive. This
was reported in Derry Journal and gives Mary's age as 82.
The secretary at St.Columbs RC church has checked records and found Mary Doherty b. 1 Dec.
1918.This is the only one that would be close to the right age.
Would love to buy marriage certificate for Robert and Mary but do not have a date.

    thanks all for helping...........bigjon

Hi,
If you have only presumed she was born Derry why are you sure she was christened in St Columbs RC Church? I can see at least a dozen Mary Doherty's born in those years in Derry.

Cheers,
Holly

hi Holly,
St. Columbs is the local Roman Catholic church to the addresses I have so it seemed the obvious place to check for records. It was confirmed as used for baptism of Mary Norah Miller 29 Dec. 1943,burrial of Robert Miller 22 Dec.1950 and burial of Mary Miller 27 April 2011.
The birth 1 Dec. 1918 is the closest I can get.If I can find she has the right siblings, then she is the one.

There are couple of newspaper mentions (Londonderry Sentinel 1939 and 1945) of a Robert Millar, bus driver, of 103 Dungiven Road, which would seem to tie in well with the 'facts' known to bigjon and the marriage suggested as a possibility by maryderry.

Regarding the Dohertys/Millers
I am Mary's Grandson and son of Patrick. I may be able to fill in some of the blank spots if anyone wants to message me.

So glad to see a connection to the Millars. My grandparents and their family lived next door in 105 Dungiven Rd. - Jim and Meta Mitchell. They had a shop in the 1940s.  I know from this search there is a daughter of Marie. The Millars were always spoken with high regard by my mum and her siblings.

my father was Patrick and i am his only child has 2 sons and Marie has a son and daughter.
my father passed away almost 5 years to this day and ironically my grandmother all passed away at this time of year.
my father was the last of the siblings to pass away.
i was close to my grandmother and she spoke of your grandparents ,she had a close friend a Mrs Mitchell and she had neighbours in Bann Drive called Mitchell.
at this stage i probably have as much of an idea of the family history as anyone.
If i can be of any assistance to anyone please feel free to contact me

This is my grandmother, siblings etc are all correct, her younger brother Kevin died of septicaemia as a result of being struck by a cricket. I have various documents relating to the family going back over a century. I am more than happy to assist with inquiries.
