Title: SUMMERSGILL/SUMMERSKILL Gargrave and Blackburn 1841-1851
Post by: allans on Monday 03 November 14 12:01 GMT (UK)
Gargrave Parish Register has the baptism of Richard SUMMERSGILL 2 Jul 1848 parents John SUMMERSGILL and Rebekah.
I have Richard and his mother Rebecca (widow) on 1861(Class: RG 9; Piece: 3094; Folio: 82; Page: 4; GSU roll: 543077) in Blackburn. She is listed age 41 from Over Darwen, Lanc. His age is 12 from Gargrave.

I can not fing them on the 1851. This surname has many variants and is often mis-transcribed. Can anyone help find them on the 51 census. I have searched indexes and browsed Gargrave 41/51 census images on Ancestry - no luck. Maybe a different transcription index will help.

I have not found a marriage for John and Rebecca (Rebekah), or his death.
I believe John may be baptised Gargrave 20 Apr 1823 son of Richard SUMMERSKILL and Sarah ROBINSON. I have this family on the 1841 and 1851 census in Gargrave, but John or his family are not with them.

Can anyone help find John SUMMERSKILL/SUMMERSGILL born 1823 on the 1841 or 18951 census?
Can anyone id the marriage of John & Rebeccaa - what was her surname?

ANy help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Allan

1851 has a John whose wife Rebecca was bn c1820 at H0107/2261 f188 p14 (Over Darwen)
Ancestry has it as Loumingill.
It is a 'maybe' as son is Robert age 3 bn Yorkshire and not Richard but everything else fits

Death John Summersgill registered Blackburn 1859 - could be him.
UKBMD- Lancashire gives age as 35 - about right.

Neither am I :'(
Nor am I having any luck with Anthony Summersgill bapt Gargrave 1813 son of William and Ann of Bell Busk. Have him on 1851 - with another Richard Summersgill born 1826 just says 'Lancashire'
Are they related? - and I dont have WIlliam and Ann - who are they?
I thought an 'odd' name might be easier.....
