Title: Australian soldier's memorial
Post by: Certacito on Wednesday 05 November 14 20:59 GMT (UK)
Thought people might be interested in this memorial to an Australian soldier located in Rake Lane Cemetery, Wallasey. Possibly a local lad who emigrated?

How odd that his country isn't mentioned - I presume there was a rising sun on the upturned brim of his hat?

I wonder if a rellie will find this.  Do hope so.    :)    Good find!

Had a quick look on the National Archives of Australia site and there is quite a lot of information.  He was born in Liverpool but was living in South Australia with his parents when he joined up.

Got to admit it was my five year old granddaughter who spotted it.  She said "There is a cowboy over there". Bless her! :)

Had another look the other day.  No camera with me sadly but seems it is his mother and fathers grave his memorial is lying on.  Assume they moved to the Wirral from Liverpool at some time?
