Title: JAMES HAMPSON
Post by: senator on Thursday 06 November 14 12:36 GMT (UK)
Hi my name is Alf Hampson, I am new to this site so please excuse me if I go on a bit.
On the 1881 census which I know is correct, shows William Hampson age 32 (my Great Grandfather) born 1849 with his wife Mary E Hampson (Born 1852) and first child Beatrice (under 1 year) the 1891 census shows Beatrice 11, Mabel 9, Mary E Hampson 6, and Maud 4, (my Grandmother) .The address on both census show 12 Galloway street, Manchester. when I go back on the census for 1871,1861, I have found a William "H" Hampson age 22, then 12 (on the 1861 census) with a Father called James but now the address is  Print Street, Hooley Hill Audenshaw, Lancashire. The 1851 and 1841census shows West Street, Hooley Hill and  I was wondering if this is the same family and if anybody out there had any info about the Hampson family tree, they could share with me as I am a little doubtful if I am tracing the right lineThanks

Hi senator

Welcome to rootschat  :)

Did William marry Mary E Marsland
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-267-12425-53395-24?cc=1788853

that marriage gives his father as James

William was a warehouseman and James was a Grocer

It looks as though William H who you have in Print Street is another family as he is still there in 1881 occupation Pawnbroker with a wife Hannah

Hello and welcome,

This one looks very possible

1851 2220/1041/48

It's very damaged but you can just about see that James is a grocer.
There is a Will* and an older Robert. They are in Upper Brook Street.

1861 2590 / 79/ 21 has a William living with older brother Robert in Bowdon Cheshire.

Regards
Heywood
