Title: Roman Catholic clergy,Lanarkshire 1914
Post by: ABradley on Monday 10 November 14 17:05 GMT (UK)
Hi,

I am trying to find out information on a RC priest called William Bradley who baptised my father(Andrew Bradley) in August 1914 at St. John's RC church ,Uddingston.
I know this because he had written this on the back of my dad's birth certificate together with the name of the sponsor.
No one in the family has ever mentioned a priest being in the family.
The nearest I could find online was a priest of that name being in St.Brigid's,Newmains in 1948/50, where he was described as an assistant priest.
There is no record of him on St.John's web site (nor a reply to my query from either parish website)

Andrew

Have you checked the Scottish 1911 census for him?

Hi Carole,
Thanks, yes I have but could not find any clergy of that name. There were other William Bradleys but I have nothing as yet to connect him.

Uddingston, like the rest of Lanarkshire prior to 1948, was under the jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Glasgow. Try contacting Dr Mary McHugh, the Archivist of the Archdiocese, she may be able to help.   archives@rcag.org.uk

Very good Andrew, I knew she'd get back to you. She didn't get an award from the Pope for nothing!

Is anyone else having problems with the Glasgow Roman Catholic Archives contact?  I have tried to email Dr. McHugh via the archives email given by Lodger - returns as undeliverable, and also have tried their "information" email contact given on the Diocesan website, also undeliverable.  Any ideas anyone?
